Where to take brake temp?
What spot of the brakes should I take an IR temp reading at? Would any spot on the rotor work or right at the base of the brake pad (where it touches the rotor)?
Thanks |

What exactly do you want to measure? Pad temp? Rotor temp? caliper temp? Some of your ability to measure is clearly impacted by the size/type of wheel on the car too.

You only get surface temperature with the gun, so your brakes might still be on the verge of fade (high core temeperature) even if they look alright to the gun.

I just want a general temp. I'm only starting to record info and temps, so I want to start simple. What would be the best temp to know? I don't have brake fade issues, I did get some hairline cracks on the rotor surface during an event. So maybe rotor temp would be best?
Mainly I want to see if I need better brake cooling (or ifi just need to brake less). |
