Hankook tire question
To all:
Does anyone have any experience with the Hankook Ventus R-S3 tires? I was thinking of using them as my wets for vintage racing on a 1971 911. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

I've driven them a few times on some friends' cars, and found them to be very good. They have a similar feel to many R-comps on turn-in, but then seem to give up to that stickier rubber once you're in the turn (but still as good or better than any street tire I've driven). I will likely use these or Direzza Star Specs for my 911 when it's time to get new street/rain tires.

In a 2011 Grassroots Motorsports test of 5 different 200 treadwear rated tires, including the RS3, Star Specs and other top tires in the same class, the RS3's finished 1st on a sub-1 minute autocross course. The RS3's were .5 seconds quicker, on average than the Star Specs.
Just what I read. I don't use any of the tires tested.... |

I autocrossed all of last season on the R-S3's on my 944. They were superb in the summer heat with duel-drivers and in the wet, wet spring. I highly recommend them.

The Hanooks are great tires. I run them on my 924S for everything. Autocross, time trials, driving to work, they perform well everywhere I have used them. They have carried me to I class track records at Willow Springs, Streets of Willow, Buttonwillow, (lot of willows...lol:-) and Chuckwalla as well as 3rd overall in the season for AX.
When you factor in the low cost, in the dollars per smiles ratio they are pretty hard to beat. Last edited by mmagus; 03-01-2012 at 08:22 AM.. |

I have just put the R-S3's on my 911, 225/45-17 and 255/40-17. They are WAY better than the old Avon tires I have on my 16" wheels. I'm doing a complete coil over suspension set up on my 911, and I will track the car after that. I hope that the R-S3's will work well. If not i will switch to R-888 or R-A1's (Toyo).
I think I payd less than $500 for the R-S3's, you can't beat that!!! |

Guys:
Thank you for all the feedback! Are you running full tread or shaved? Thanks again, Kevin
