1965 painted dash 912, Irish Green

SOLD 4/24/20
This 1965 912 coupe was one of the first 159 Porsche 912’s built in Stuttgart (VIN# 350159), and is a true painted-dash model. The replacement 1720cc “big bore” engine was rebuilt by a 356/912 engine specialist in 2010, and has had about 10k miles of use. The 5-speed 902/1 gearbox shifts smoothly, and the car drives very nicely in general (see driving video in Main Google album). I have enjoyed taking this 912 on several road trips, including to the mountains of Idaho/Utah/Nevada, along the Pacific coast highway to San Francisco, and a vintage car rally in Oregon. Located in Seattle. Asking $35,000.

An extensive collection of pictures are organized into three shared Google Photos albums. The Main album has exterior and interior pics of the ‘65 912, a 5-minute driving video, engine idling video, and closeups of various points of interest —VIN plaque, body panels stamped with VIN last three digits (x159) confirming they are all original (except the passenger door), Sekurit glass markings, orange stripe hood crest, etc. The Kardex verifies this 912 as a very early example, built on May 31, 1965 (the second month of production for the 912 model). It also confirms Irish Green (6406) as the original color.

The Main album also shows the presence of all the features unique to 1965 912’s (and 911’s) - four screw horn grills, non-adjustable shock mounts, windshield washer bag inside fender well, non-wrap around knee pad on dash, etc. The Mann air cleaner canisters were used on 912 engines only in 1965. The last photo in the album shows the first owner Dieter Finnern (third from the right) accepting a Golden Camera award for his work as a pioneering TV producer in West Berlin in the 1960’s.

Lots of detailed, closeup photos (including the underside of the car) can be found in the Inspection album.

Restoration work, including replacing the inner and outer rocker panels and door posts on the driver side, is documented in the Rust Repair album.
