Told? The guy spent thousands on an engine rebuild and didn't save the receipt?

The previous owner rebuilt the engine himself. All I have are pictures of the engine out of the car and apart.

Yep, every buyer's guide I've ever read has said if the person doesn't have receipts, don't believe the work was done. Even if the PO rebuilt the engine, there should be receipts for parts replaced (valves, pistons, studs, whatever) and machine work that was done. Not having any docs makes the proposition riskier than normal, imo.

epbrown and Az911 are right. No record of what, if anything, was replaced during the rebuild. Were parts in spec. Any performance modifications. Those are some of the questions that BSH won't be able to answer without any records from the previous owner. But at $8500, it might still draw some interest.

I don't think I am interested in a trade for that car. Whenever this car sales I plan on buying a SC. Thanks for the offer.

Most of us are aware that receipts are best proof of a rebuild or repair, but even then, many shops in the past neglected putting the vin, mileage, and even year of the car on the reciepts. Usually on lower price repairs like a clutch, etc. I think the tone of the post was what I most dis-liked. Very unnessesary.......... Epbrowns post was slightly less valuable than my post, again stating the obvious.
