FS 75' 911 roller w/ drivetrain PICS

OK here it is:
What I have folks, is said to be a 1975 911. I bought this car along with a whole bunch of heavy auto repair equiptment, from a tractor trailer repair shop about six months ago. I originally bought it to fix my 912 with, which has some minor front end damage, but quickly realized that it was too good of a car to sacrifice. The only things missing from the car are the front seats and the windshield. The seats were gone when I got it and the windshield was removed and broken so I tossed it. The engine was removed and sitting next to it and it is complete with carbs. I know nothing about the condition of it other than that it turns and is complete. The gearbox was left in the car and has a crack in the bellhousing. Although complete with gauges, the dash is in pretty sad shape as is the rest of the interior - it needs a new one. I have acess to a set of seats (as most of us do) for a minimal price that apparrently need to be recovered if someone is interested - and a good dash as well. The car has an 88' carrerra tail on it and the original fuchs whls which are missing some of the the centers but otherwise very nice. The body of the car has no rust except for one spot on the front left windshield pilar that was normally covered by the windshield. Other than a silver dollar sized dent on the top of the right front fender and a hood that has some cracking paint around where the badge would be (it's missing) the body is straight and nice with what looks to be an older black paint job. I bought the car without any paperwork, but after going to DMV I found that it has a salvaged title that is readily available for $385 in back tag fees. I'm kinda thinking it was stolen and recovered in it's present condition - don't know. I will consider selling the body and drivetrain separately assuming that the right two people make the right two offers, and I will even consider delivering one or both of the two for a fee provided I don't have to drive too far - Or for a larger fee if you are far away (I need a good road trip!) In my experience however, shipping can be very reasonable - I sent a 912 from NJ to LA a year ago for about $700 through a company called autolog. I am in Southern California and am looking for $3000 for the whole package.

You guys just love that 3.2 Euro stuff huh? It was a suprise to me as well. At this point folks - I have been offered more than my asking price by more than one party so I am taking sealed bids from all - may the winner go fast and have fun

The rule, I thought, was the asking price. When someone agrees to pay your asking price - Great - Sold - Done!

Right?

So this guy changes his price to higher offers and turns it into an auction. What the “”””

I thought I was on Pelican, not ebay.

Let me guess? No etiquette – Does not know what he is selling and now turns greedy!

You’re off to a great start!

You guys are right, I shouldn't have made this into an auction - I was unaware that this was an informal (or formal) rule and I guess my inexperience in the on-line marketplace has led me to make this poor choice. I assumed that the motor was something it wasn't which is also something that I take responsibility for. I once lowered my asking price and then found out that what I had was more valuable, and then was confronted with the decision of who to sell it to after recieving multiple simultaneous bids for above my lowered price. How do you handle that?

We all make mistakes, you did a good job in handling yours.

I think the normal process on this board is to honor the first person in line that you negotiate a price with and commits to pay, it then falls to the next in line if the first person fails to make a timely payment.

I would normally say - sell it to the first person to make a committment to the price - But I really don't think that would be resonable given the value is easily double that...

I'm not sure Mike knew what he had and I don't necessarily think it's justified to say boo hoo - you have to sell to somebody...

I'm not sure you'd want this car... it looks like you're trying to corner the market in 1974 model year P-cars

Mike,

Hey it is your car and you can sell it however you want. You advertised it here but if people want to offer you more then you asked, nobody has the right to say thats unfair. Sounds like some people just want to "steal" the car at a low price. You are way to low on your asking price. You could get at least that for just the motor. Good luck

That's your car and you hadn't entered into any contracts. You just placed an ad on the web. You just figured it out before you gave the thing away. These guys are just grousing because they thought they had a steal. I just read the ad a moment ago and my first reaction was "big fuchs more than $1k, factory tail almost $1k, working tranny almost $1k... where's my checkbook!" But then I read the rest...

I'm happy you're gonna get what it is worth.
