Post 1987 Carrera Targa Black/Black 139k mi.

In my opinion, this 1987 911 Carrera Targa is an excellent daily driver in a classic color combo, with performance to spare for the more sporting driver. The G50 transmission shifts much more smoothly than you'd expect, and it takes a lot of hair-raising experience at the autocross to get to know its limits. As a newcomer to Porsche when I bought it, the shifting and increased power in the 3.2 engine really sold it for me, especially when compared to 911SC's which I test drove when shopping. It's a heck of a lot of fun, and hey, you can take the targa top off on a drive to the beach!

I've been a forum member for a while now, and with this car I've gone from not knowing where to add the oil to doing axle replacement, valve adjustment, and lots of other maintenance work over the past several years. It's been an enjoyable adventure, but I've got my first kid on the way, and with a new business starting to pick up steam, I'm really not going to be able to put time into the car the way I used to. I thought I'd post here first to see if any Pelicans might be interested in picking up this car, and if it sells, maybe later on in my life I'll come back to the marque for more punishment. In the meantime, though, I'd like to make sure that someone else can enjoy it (and curse it, if you're into DIY!) just as much as I did.

It drives very well, and I've been taking good care of the engine and transmission, but the could use some TLC to clean up a few of the rough edges that I haven't had time to fully address.

Here are the details:

139k mile 1987 Carrera Targa with clean carfax located in the San Gabriel Valley near Los Angeles, CA. G50 transmission fluid and oil just replaced with Mobil 1 Delvac (tranny) and Brad Penn (engine oil). Ignition wires, rear axles, rear brake lines, and rear brake rotors replaced recently. Targa top in good condition with a few minor cuts. Paint and exterior condition is good with some scratches, scrapes, and minor dents visible up close. No known rust. After originally failing smog, catalytic converter was recently replaced with a CARB-legal aftermarket cat from PP, and passed smog earlier this year with flying colors. Interior is in good condition, with a few tears and loose parts.

Here's my current work list that I'd like to work on but don't have time for: non-functional items include a partially-disconnected alarm system, power mirrors, power driver's seat, and some issues with the aftermarket stereo system. Haven't checked the heating system during the summer, so you'll want to have that checked in a PPI. Driver's side sun visor and headliner light can get a little loose from time to time. Speedo sticks at first, then pops up and works properly past around 30mph. A/C needs to be recharged and looked at, hasn't been run in a while. If you've got some experience and free time to fix these minor issues, this is a really good deal on a mechanically well-sorted G50 Carrera that's got plenty of power and fun available. I do have some parts available that could go along with it there's interest.

Tires are Kumho Ecsta MX with a decent amount of tread left. IIRC, rear wheels appear to be Japanese Fuchs repros. Not sure about front wheels. Rear torsion bar bushings are Neatrix with grease nipples, and the rest of the suspension is stock as far as I know. Black/Black is original color, but shows some evidence of a front-end repaint at some point. I would strongly recommend a PPI on this or any car purchases! Asking price is $17.5k. Please PM for more information or photos.

Thanks for your interest!

-Gordon
