Cayenne engine - first impressions

Got to take a good look at one, overall I have to say I am impressed.

On first glance, you immediately think "928" Overall size and shape are similar.

some specifics Didn't get a chance to ask a whole lot of questions, and couldn't look for as near as long as I would have liked too but from what I saw.

8 cyl, 32 valve motor Interference motor (like that was a surprise)
It has a TIMING CHAIN - Bravo for Porsche!!!

Serpentine belt for accesories (alt, PS, etc) Oil pump is driven off of a seperate chain from what appeared to be the crank. Again, a nice feature - if and when the oil pump needs service, you don't have to tear apart the motor to get at it.

Integral oil heat exchanger; oil filter is a removable filter element (a la 996) coolant is routed through the exchanger to bleed off oil heat.

Waterpump appears robust - feeds two seperate "feeder lines" controlled by a single thermostat.

Radiator appears very robust - looks like they dumped the aluminum and plastic and went to all metal - supplemental cooling by two electric fans

Single fuel rail feeding all 8 injectors

Throttle body enters intake manifold through the front center, 8 ducts feed the cylinders

There are two air pumps - was not able to determine if they are for intake or exhaust

All wheel drive system appears very robust. On par with a Carrera 4

Massive power steering cooler - covers roughly 25% of the radiator.

Brakes 3 piston front calipers, 2 piston rear calipers

Air leveling suspension a la 959

Drawings and diagrams available upon request

In short Gentleman, I saw them put a 996 on a trailer with this thing and run it through a slolom

yeah, it is an SUV, but loooking it over, I have to say they kept it true to the name and the crest....

Nope, the Fabcar has a version of the flatsix from the GT2.
