"1) It took resources from other projects WE preferred. "
Meanwhile Porsche is preparing the Carrera GT, New 911 model new Boxter and a Boxter coupe? All for this year and next .. Uhh HUH! Good call! "2) It is a package we dislike." Dont buy it let all the people who were forced to sell their beloved 911's for their family/practicality/ Hauling etc buy it they will be rewarded constantly by their Cayenne! "4) It is prostituting and devaluing the brand." I'm not going to sit here and teach Branding 101 for ya but that statment is way of course... They are filling a market, simple supply and demand and they are only insuring that they can create the worlds best sportcars for years to come. . . So in your eyes Porsche should stop making the Cayenne, boxter and the 996 and go back to an Aircooled 911. Then the "brand" would be healed HUh? Porsche has a great product lineup now and soon to be a better one. "Rightly or wrongly the Porsche management and family decided to go down this road for their own best interests, not ours. " And your point is?? Their best interests are to MAkE the Best Damn Sports Cars around and To be profitable doing it! But obviously that doesnt fit your "Your Own Best Interest!" YOU ARE AN ASSHAT!! Thanks!! Jon |

My opinions and beliefs are obviously very different to yours. I feel there is no point or benefit in expanding on them here. I hope fortune smiles on you and that you will soon have the possibility of purchasing your Cayenne. I think you are made for that car, especially without the air suspension and with a VW engine. |

To all the other Cayenne haters : Have any of you pulled your heads out yer asses long enough to see one or drive one ?? Probably not!! *** PULL YER HEAD OUT YOUR ASS And GO DRIVE ONE *** YOU ARE AN ASSHAT!! Thanks!! Jon [/B] Your point appears to be that anyone that hates the Cayenne has their head up their ass, anyone that does not appreciate "New Porsche" and dislikes the Cayenne after driving it and does not want one is an asshat. The fact that you seem to believe a Cayenne is a sports car is an indicator of the depth of your understanding. Money spent on the Cayenne would have developed a serious modern 911. The 997, new boxster etc are not what some of us want. The Carrera GT is a flagship and a richman's toy, I can't see myself using one on a hillclimb and then using it to go to the supermarket but I do exactly that with my 911. Please don't suggest the Cayenne can perform in this way, it does not fit my requirements. I'm pleased you haven't forced your ideas of branding 101 on us, it might have been teaching your grandmother to suck eggs;). A return to aircooled would certainly appeal to a lot of us but as we all know it has limitations because of future legislation on pollution - Porsche making the cars we want is not living in the past which is what you seem to be accusing the Cayenne haters of. Rational discussion with some people on some topics like religion and politics is pointless as they don't listen to the opposite view and have chronically closed minds, you appear to fit this category. Perhaps more roughage in your diet and finding a girlfriend would help you.:D If you like I can offer more insulting remarks in that vein which is all your words and tone merit.:D |
Wow! Lipitor and Viagra sure makes you guys cranky!

After reading everything, i must say most of you that hate the Cayenne, just hate SUV's. Saying that Porsche copied the latest trend of building SUV's is.... RIGHT!!! Stay with me here, Porsche is a car company, they need to make money to stay afloat. If a car is going to make them more money, then they put more money into bigger projects like the Carrera GT... Honestly, everyone in the world dislikes one Porsche that has been produced throughout the history of Porsche. But why is it that most of the flack goes to the joint projects of VW and Porsche like the 914, 924, and ... Cayenne? Money... do you know that Porsche spent 300 million dollars on the 964/993 design... The company was only worth 300 million dollars a few years ago when i was looking up some history on the company. Good or bad, all projects build the company stronger. Mini vans, so are you going to b!tch slap Porsche for putting in a 3.3 Turbo motor into a VW bus just to keep up with the 959 on the test track? Or is that OK ie:strickly for testing purposes only?
I think you care more about your image than the company... I think it hurts your self image. Porsche designs high performace everything. If you've ever seen anything Porsche has made besides your early prised cars, you'd figured it out by now. It wouldn't supprise me if every car manufacturer today had gone to Porsche at least once for engineering advice, because thats how they started. I don't like everything they've made, but i respect the thought and knowledge that went into every project. How do you think we got the nuclear bomb? How do you think we won Le Mans with a GT40.... Opinion, opinion, opinion....
Yawn. |
I bought the V6 Cayenne for my wife. We are both very pleased.Ofcourse it was more expensive than Touareg. But we ( both!) preferred Porsche anyway !!! And have you read how well Cayenne sells? By making money in selling Cayennes ( remember that Porsche shared the development costs with VW... because Touareg and Cayenne are really closely related ) , they have money to create new sports cars. Or am I wrong ?And I love the rear doors !!! I love the ability to take plenty of cargo in !!! I have a kid too , with bikes and toys and all that.Try squeezing a childs bike in a 911 , and take your son and wife with you.It was impossible earlier , now it is simple. And the 250 horses are more than enough for us.The car is not super fast , but keeps easily up with all other cars. And handles well.I was thinking of other cars too , but when this cheaper model came available we immediately test drove it.And liked it si much , that we bought one. Ofcourse S would have been nice , the TURBO one most likely would make cry from happiness.... but they are out of my reach.Financially.
Just my opinion.... Erkki / washington D.C. |

And another sensible opinion..!! Enjoy your Cayenne!!! I love how the Cayenne haters keep saying " A destuction of Porsches image" Yet Porsche cant keep the cayennes in the showroom they are one of the top selling Luxo SUV's on the market right now. Since the Cayennes release the BMW SUV and a few others have experienced a sharp decline in sales. HMMM! Strange huh! Thanks to the Cayenne we are seeing 4 new models over the next couple years HURTING Porsche's Image my ass! |
Its the same with any generation, change is bad.... bad bad bad. Head in box, change bad. Nothing good come from change... bad bad bad. (just don't tell them that they're beloved Porsches came from change, its like telling a dog no, they don't get it, just a good smaking with a news paper and your good to go)

I drove the V8 around a closed road loop and held on to a 996. (OK, so Walter Roehl wasnt driving the Carrera) Then we went offroading. One of the most capable off roaders Ive ever experienced. The Cayenne is very very impressive piece of kit, a techno tour de force.
Ofcourse, I doubt many will go off road at all, or go 0-60 in 5.5 on the way to soccer practice either. And regarding the bald guy picking up chicks in the red slant nose. In blue and its not a slant nose, but the rest is true. Come clean, Victor. stuart 86 carrera |
