Also, read yesterday there's a Michigan connection with the Cayenne. Valeo, a French automotive equipment supplier with headquarters in Michigan designed and supplied the awesome rotating headlamps!

Gemballa, me likes.:D Now how could I go about selling my wife on it, and trading our 4Runner straight across for it? If we have to own an SUV, it might as well be fast.

If you want one, get a used one and save the first year's depreciation, which I'm sure is $$$.

I have driven the Cayenne base model, it's a fun SUV to drive. The fit and finish is great. DO NOT ! buy a new one. They don't hold their value, infact they fall of the face of the earth as son as you drive off the lot. With plenty of used inventory, and a long factory warranty why go new.
My Brother-inlaw is a dealer of high-line cars, and tell's me they are very soft at all the auctions.

Good luck!

I am sure the Cayenne is really very nice;)

Jeeezzz, buy what ever the hell you want. I would however, look for a used one. 10-20 thousand miles or so. Let someone else take the big hit.

Can I jump in and ask what a nicely optioned Toureg costs?

The Cayenne may be a great SUV, but what a SUV represents is the antithis of what Porsche has always been about.

An expensive SUV is for mini-van mommy's with child seats in the back filled with many new boxes of shoes scored from the latest sale at the mall, she's yapping on the cell phone admiring her latest nail job while blasting down the road and cuts you off inconsiderately while you are in your 911 forcing evasive manuveurs on your part.BTDT

And Porsche stopped racing to make this thing?

Might as well throw in a few photos, so they can all see what they secretly lust after ...... :D

The best part about the Gemballa (besides the 700hp version... wow!) is the lack of Porsche badges. The Cayenne would be more accepted if it were "Cayenne by Porsche" instead of "Porsche Cayenne". Sort of like the "Cimarron by Cadillac"... actually quite like that. They're both pointless...

cegerer 02-27-2004 11:16 AM

Great. Now we Cayenne owners are being called "rich stupid people". Thanks Isbo. I knew I was stupid, but wasn't really sure if I was rich ......

D Hanson 02-27-2004 11:35 AM

Hahaha. Been called worse.

Curt, how is the asbestos underwear holding up?

I just read a review on SUVs in a truck mag. The new Nissan Armada was like .002 slower 0-60 and 1/4 than the S pepper. Bigger inside, better looking, cheaper, what's to think about?

Armada

I went around Portland Raceway as a passenger in a Cayenne S driven by Hurley Haywood......the combination is pretty quick.....

Hurley's comment while he was climbing up the a$$ of a late 911 Turbo:

"If I couldn't pull away from a Cayenne with a Turbo, I'd find another hobby.."

I'm waiting for the Toureg Diesel...

Sorry Curt. I didn't mean to offend. :o :o
I forgot that one should never criticise a man's car, wife or dog.

Looks are subjective and to me that Nissan is one ugly duckling. I like the looks of most of the new SUVs, but that one is one of the worst I have seen. The way the Cayenne drove is what reeled me in so to speak. I had not even considered buying a Cayenne and had showed my wife a pic of one in DuPointe registry when they frist came out. She was kinda blah on the pics. Dealer threw me the keys one day and I reluctantly drove one. I only had to go about two blocks before I called her and said you got to drive this. She only drove it about two blocks before she said she wanted it. Neither one of us really did 0 - 60 sprints or quarter mile so accelleration was only a portion of the equation.

The impressive factor was that it drove like a sports car and felt like a sports car around turns and etc. Any manufacturer can get 0 - 60 or 1/4 mile times if they choose with a big enough motor. The key is taking a vehicle that can tow 7,000 pounds and make it feel like a sports car in the twisties.

Regarding your statement, the same could be said for some Japenese and American sports cars and probably a few sedans in relation to older 911s. Bigger, roomier, just as fast or faster in the 1/4 mile and cheaper. But that is not why we Porsches is it whether they are old Porsches or are new Porsches. I also wouldn't jump to a conclusion that the Nissan is preferrable simply based on a review in a truck mag. I would rather drive the vehicles and experience the vehicles to make an informed decision, then again I like to keep an open mind when dropping my $$$ on a vehicle.
