Next big coolant leak for the V8's

The next big coolant leak for the S and T's will be this coolant T located between the engine and firewall. I don't have any other details other than they probably crimped the clamps to tight and weakened the T.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1357605801.jpg

This has been pretty well documented and has become part of the coolant pipe swap for most people since its a bit easier to get to with the intake off.

Nostril Cheese 01-14-2013 06:18 PM

Dont even attempt it without removing the intake. You'll end up breaking even more plastic lines trying to replace that T fitting.

Silly cheap easy fixes for the Manufacturer.
Not so much for the Purchaser.
Confuses me about quality on the German side.

yes, mine just let go last night! I did the coolant pipe upgrade two years ago , but not this pipe. Can it be done without taking off the intake manifold, please say yes!

Not on the v8, the FSM says this as step 1:

Courtesy of PORSCHE OF NORTH AMERICA, INC.
1. Drain cooling system. --> 193817 Draining and filling coolant (includes bleeding)
2. Remove intake-air distributor. Refer to 24 46 19 Removing and installing intake-air distributor - as of
MY 2003 (Cayenne S TIP, Cayenne S MAN, Cayenne Turbo, Cayenne Turbo S, Cayenne S TIO Titan) .

Of course that section is like 20 pages.

arghhh! well at least i won't need to drain cooling system, as it drained itself when the hose went:) I'm going in this weekend! Whoo Hooo. I almost forgot how much fun it was doing the coolant pipes.

I believe that if the pipes were changed by a Porsche dealer an entire swap was done not just a partial.....that's what my dealer told me.... Trust but verify ;)

914-6Porsche 02-08-2013 04:41 PM

My pipes were changed by the dealer and they didn't change the T.

After a chat with my mechanic a bit of good news is, as the OP mentioned, the t was too crimped . With normal tightening it should be fine .

It isnt that bad. I can typically do it in under 5 hours including changing the starter. An air saw and poly grease help quite a bit. The biggest pain is getting the bits of plastic out of the existing aluminum fittings. PM me if you have any questions.

Any thoughts if I need to stick with the Porsche coolant? Its 85 miles to the dealer and if I can use some other brand it may help. Otherwise the job is moving along. Getting ready to dive into the firewall area to get that darned T out

Scott R 02-12-2013 05:08 PM

We need to get someone like LN engineering, or Elephant, or somebody clever like that to machine a steel T.

I only use the Porsche coolant.

The NAPA store here stated that the Zerex DEX-COOL is the stuff to use. I don't remember the cost but it is probably under $15/Gal.
