What to look out for with Used Cayenne

Will soon be looking for a Used Cayenne.

I do not put more than 7500 miles/year on a vehicle.

Budget Low $20's.

What are known issues one should look out for/avoid?

I'm surprised that someone hasn't chimed in by now. This board is fairly quiet this time of year and really isn't very busy anyway on the Cayenne's. What are you looking for, a V6, S or T? We have an S and a Turbo. I don't know anything about the V6 other than I had one for a loaner once and it was really gutless but really mundane. The Cardan drive shaft is an issue and has probably been changed by now in your price range along with the coolant pipes on the V8's. Some have had problems with the spark plug coil packs and I believe that they extended the warranty on those to 100K. I have a 2004T and some of these were taken care of by the dealer because of the 60K warranty. Some of them have not and aren't cheap to fix. A coolant T connection should have been changed with the coolant pipes but mine wasn't. My 2004 was the 2nd year and has had some other weird things go wrong but I'm sure it isn't typical with the later models. I have horrible AM and really marginal FM reception.
My plate has been really full but I finally spent about 4 hours to check it out. I have not found an antenna cable/connector for the radio, so it is receiving off of a very small stub of a SMA/SMC type connector. Try to do most of the servicing yourself, like brakes($900 at the dealer or about an 1-1 1/2 hr and $300 to do it yourself, oil changes(dealer $200), light bulbs. There is a lot of information on all of the above on all of the forums, search around. The wife has a 2006S and it has been great so far. My T has about 85K miles.

Look to buy from a Porsche enthusiast who was religious about oil changes and took care of the car. Be very careful it hasn't had bodywork as that usually leads to problems with corrosion.

Just my opinion here

Tons to negative biased BS on the Rennlist Cayenne forum. A bunch of guys that never got over the fact that Porsche made an SUV. Renntech and 6SpeedOnline seem to have a much more balanced and factual viewpoint

Just pointing out that even the tech stuff there gets muddled in BS. Making the Cayenne sound MUCH worse than it really is.

Yep. I've had an 04 CTT for many years and done all the wrenching on it myself.

All the common things and and I'm the one who figured out to use CTTs control arms on an S or CTT first, among other things.

Nobody said the "tech" there was bad. But the negative attitude and bashing of the Cayenne has been bad on that site. Not so much recently but the last 3-4 years it was so bad that they chased many people away.

I have an '04 CTT. Love it...but like all Porsches, not cheap to repair if you have someone else do it. Just had the coolant pipes replaced after a massive leak.

I drove both the TT and the normally aspirated version. They are very different as the TT not only has huge HP (450), but it also has much better brakes. It tows very well. Radio reception is poor as stated above. nav system is also neanderthal. Mine has heated seats and steering wheel. The wheel also telescopes so it is easy to get comfortable. Lots of back seat room for large adults. Bixenon headlights were an option and well worth the price here in the country as they have saved me from hitting deeer several times. It drives like a 911...except faster than most. Engine/exhaust has a sinster rumble like a hot rod...but interior is quiet. Great vehicle and a bargain for the money.
