For a while, I've noticed our Cayenne GTS starts out in 2nd gear and not 1st. Why does the GTS start out in 2nd gear instead of 1st gear? Is 1st gear too low of a gear or something?

My 2004 Turbo does the same thing, and it only has 6 gears (I think your 2009 has 8). I looked into that a bit and it is temperature-dependent. The car will start out in 2nd gear unless it has a reason to shift into 1st. It seems to avoid 1st on flat ground unless the ambient temperature is in the 30s or lower.

It depends on the machine. Maybe you have a sports version??

Starting in 2nd gear should be normal unless it's cold or you manually shift to 1st, or if you switch the PSM (Porsche Stability Management) off.
BTW my Cayenne S becomes a beast when the PSM is switched off!! John

If you turn on Sport Mode it will default to first gear automatically. I think they do the second gear start for fuel economy.
