Gutted the Cayenne. Pics. Need help now :)
HI everyone,
So i've been having some issues with my newly purchased cayenne. I also noticed the carpet was a little damp and smelled up close. Today i tore the car apart and got to the carpet and took it out as well. IT WAS SOAKED, like so bad that when i grabbed sections of it, it wrang out and poured out water. So i spoke to the dealer and he told me he left the sunroof open one day. Failed to mention that little gem when i bought it! UGH. Anyway.... ![]() Here we are, ready to be cleaned up and all torn apart, Gonna put it back together tomorrow, with a new amp line and stuff for audio, because the front NAV deck doesnt work so i took out the bose amp and CD changer. Got a few questions for y'all. I've photographed a few parts i'd like to know more about. First bit, this guy: Purple ish connector and wires. ![]() I havent looked into it yet but am wondering what it is connected to or for, only because its been sliced and spliced at some point. (electrical tape) Next: Since water got in, theres a load of surface rust on this piece here, The rest of the interior is rust free and clean, only this guy. Assuming its the diff lock system? Any info about it would be helpful. PIC: ![]() ![]() Next: Guessing its an antenna receiver? ![]() Next: (mind the messyness, pre clean up photo.) ![]() There is one on each side of the car, Drivers and passengers side, by the beam that the front and rear doors meet at. Under the carpet. Thanks guys! Gonna be putting it back together tomorrow and am just curious what im workin with.

The dealer left the sunroof open? Looks more like the car was flooded? That is a lot of water for an open sunroof. It is hard to tell from the photos and I am not a Cayenne guy (yet, hoping to be my next dd) but it seems the water effected the entire interior, not just an area under the sunroof. I would take some of those photos over to the dealer. Dealer owes you something I hope.

Well i hope it wasnt flooded. Seems to me that it wasnt, just very wet from a heavy rain with roof open. Only wet from behind front seats to foot area in front on the carpets, Nothing in the rear really, and nothing up the carpet that goes to the bottom of the back seats. It seems worse than it was, foam under carpets just held in water and once we took it all out it was soaked and cleanable.

So, just an update. I've dried out the car. Most of the weirdness went away. I spoke to the local porsche dealer and they told me that the car must have had clogged drains for a very long time. Which led to the wetness. I told the guy i thought the car had been driven through a lake, he said its rare you'd get water from that and at that point the service guy told me exactly what my symptoms were before i did. Footwell water, through out to the foot area of the rear. Apparently this is common with these cars.

Did you unclog the drains? The drains are up front and are a drain for the front windshield and the AC evaporator. To clear/clean them you'll need to remove the front wheel well liners. I would recommend doing a Google search for more information.
If you didn't unclog them be prepared to deal with the flood again. Ask me how I know... : ) Good luck, John

Those things you think are antennas may be side air bag sensors.

Wow, great pict's. It doesn't look too bad. That surface rust on the parking brake mechanism shouldn't cause you any problems; compared to any electrical components that might have corrosion. :-/
Those things you think are antennas, well the one with the black and Green wires is (according to the wiring diagram) the rear console antenna. --whatever that means. Maybe these antennas are passive repeaters for cell phone. (?) I expect that the little ones are impact sensors.

Oh yeah, Pelican Mystic Lama (Rob) had a Cayenne S with a tough to find leak. I don't recall the details. I think he posted about it here (search)

Yeah, wasn't a leak, was the front drains behind the wheel liners.
Those get clogged, and in heavy rain the water flows down from the vent near the windshield, fills up and runs over the hvac intake, which then leads under the carpet. Plenty of water under the carpet before the floor feels wet, lots of water by that point. When the car is that damp/humid, going for a drive results in the water evaporating. It then condenses on the metal at the leading edge of the car above the windshield and drips on you all over the place. Only discovered the drain issue after tearing out the headliner, pulling the sunroof cartridge, replacing the seal and still having the dripping from the roof. Fun times. :/
