Used Cayenne

Hi, though I've owned Porsches since the 70's, they've always been aircooled varieties. I need to replace my daily driver and am wondering if a used Cayenne may be a reasonable choice as my commute is only a few miles to the office. Are there any particular problems that folks have noted or have they been pretty reliable and repairable?

I'm an air cooled enthusiast as well, but really enjoy my 2011 Cayenne.
The complexity/electronics/cost of a modern Porsche was difficult for me to adjust to, but the driving experience of a Cayenne cannot be matched by any other SUV.

The Cayennes prior to 2011 are known for coolant pipe issues, but 2011 onward are generally pretty reliable.

You bet! Just got a 2008 Cayenne base. I understand the V6 does not have the coolant pipes issues, and 290hp is still pretty decent to get moving. And for more acceleration, there is still the 911

My 955 CTTS was much faster than my 996 (especially at this altitude).
I only put about 4K a year, so the Cayenne is a great fit for me as I don't have to really worry about MPG or lots of maintenance from high mileage. The services intervals are longer than the air-cooled counter parts.

I am spoiled now. My next Porsche will need at least 550hp to make me forget this one.

You are correct. and the Cayennes with coolant pipes issues were the 2004 -2006V8 models, not "The Cayennes prior to 2011" as previously mentioned.

I opted for a 2008 model over the new ones mainly because of the design. The rear is better looking than the new (2011 - 2015) ones, which look like a Lexus rear end.

I really like the tiptronic transmission, and the VW 3.6L VR6 engine is smooth and totally adequte for normal driving. I am getting 18.5 mpg in stop and go traffic, which is very similar to my old 4.0L V6 Xterra. Also do not put regular in it...I did it by mistake and it ran poorly, I could feel the difference.
