OT- Just seen the Cayenne!
Well I am walking out of the military exchange (BX, PX) and I am just about to get to my car when something just catches my eye...the Cayenne!
I reach into my pocket and grab my little digital camera that I just happen to have with me and I take a few pics. Here ya go...I must say the trim package on this CayenneS leaves a little to be desired! Ok, those that read and speak German...what is that on the rear hatch above the CayenneS? Is it for a German Dealer car or something?

The interior was pretty nice looking tan leather, but the exterior and it's chrome/brushed metal trim just sucks. The wheels are pretty un-porsche like as well, but I am sure it will draw a few buyers here and there.
I think an all black, black trim, black interior, with the turbo package and a nice set of aggressive tires/wheels might look ok for a hauler of the 911 to the track.

Eric,
It's not that big, about the same size as the BMW or Lexus SUV...but with the adjustable ride height it may appear bigger depending on the setting. The official website has a virtual tour that shows the vehicle in all it's ride heights and allows you to hear the engine (very impressive sounding), although I did not get to hear the one pictured since I never contacted the driver.

Boy does that look UGLY to me. I will reserve judgement until I see one in person, but boy do those pictures make it loof UGLY.
Those wheels look way to bling bling to me. I don't know if the ride height is set strangely in the picture - but it looks off to me somehow. If I had to give up my LC (God forbid), I think I would by the Tournag anyway. Jeb '79 930 97 Toyota Land Cruiser |

The Wall Street Journal reported last Thursday that Porsche says that all 25,000 of its first year production is sold out and they have "strong" buyer interest for another 170,000.
Go Figure.

I am sure it will grow on me... I feel most are maybe a bit unwilling to like it as it is one of thereasons that the Factory has pulled out of racing,, but I think it will gfrow on us all after time.. But yes i to want the factory to get back into the ring a race! and bring home another 24 of L.M. victory! I feel they will in a year or two.. thanks for the pic's..

I'll have to see one in person too. I hope they sell 170,000 of them, then they'd have no reason not to go racing...their pockets would be nice and fat.
Nathan PS: Anyone hear for sure if they are going to rally this car, like in Paris-Dakkar?

I'd prefer they didn't do that, though.

I guess the text above the "Cayenne S" logo says "Erprobungsfahrzeug" which means "test car". The car has been registered in Stuttgart (maybe factory owned).
In Germany, you often find the dealer's name below the license plate. They attach a plastic frame (with their name on it) to the car and snap the license plate into it. There is a rule how big the dealer's name may be.

yep...that's what it was, so it's a test car.
I have seen the black frame plate with dealer info, that's why I asked what the letter was...thanks!

While I certainly understand the majority opinion around here I am not sure that I agree. I think the Cayenne will likely be as well engineered a vehicle, and good at what it was designed to be as any other Porsche out there. I don't know that it's ugly. It's not as attractive as a 911, but then neither is any other SUV. As I see it the Cayenne is developed to Perform well on the street which it will do compared to other vehicles in it's class and other classes, as well as being able to better handle less than ideal conditions requiring more traction and ground clearance with improved cargo/passenger capacity.
Not all Porsche designs have been devoted to light weight and high performance, they did make a tank (or parts of it), a land train, a tractor, etc... I think the wheels look pretty good, and a similar style would look good on a 911. Of course, opinions, there are lots of them...

I really don't have a problem with the Cayenne's styling. I suppose that the big intakes on the front could be made smaller, but after seeing it in the Porsche video I was sent, the look is starting to grow on me. It's not the best looking automobile around, but I don't think it's any uglier than any other SUV, and significantly better looking than some SUVs (Can you say Aztec?).

I think the Cayenne is pretty ugly in all the pictures I've seen of it, but I won't make my final judgement until I can get a good look at it in real life. I saw one hit full throttle coming down Ventura Blvd. and it looked mean, I think it was a pre-production example because it was silver with flat black lower body cladding and black powdercoated wheels. later, amir |

I think SUV is the wrong acronym for this vehicle. My Mercedes wagon has a lot bigger utility space than this vehicle. Maybe HLS ? High-profile Luxury Sedan. Okay, I've added my .02 Wayne, you can move this to the Cayenne forum now.
