Engine value question 3.2

Trying to decide whether to part car or sell it whole.

I have a rough idea of the value of most parts but can't seem
to put a finger on the value of the engine.

1984 Carrera 3.2. car is complete and driveable right now
odo shows 74k miles
Engine is clean and almost looks recently rebuilt.
I have driven it about 1500 miles and it runs great
I don't know the history of it.

rough idea of the value of the engine only? complete airbox to exhaust (ecu not included)

Thanks
I hope this is the right area to post this...

With no history on the engine, and considering the high prices on 3.2 carreras, I can't see a way where you make more money parting the car, than selling it as a driver....... especially if you value your time, and or don't enjoy talking to a thousand people about small pieces of junk that you need to sell to make back your money.

Wild a$$ guess on the 3.2: $10 to $15k

No history on the engine? Good compression, good leak down, I would say max 10K.

Good Question.

I bought the car with a salvage title (left side sideswipe) and have since repaired
the car and gotten it inspected which gives it a branded "rebuilt salvage" title that stays with the car forever (in theory).

Based on what the engine is worth I thought it might be more profitable to part it rather than take a 20%to 40% loss on the sale of the car due to the title being branded.

Kinda feeling around right now.

As long as the work was professionally done and you have good before pics so the buyer can see what the damage was, I see no reason why it wouldn't sell well as a driver. It isn't going to bring clean title money but I would think a little better than 1/2 the price of a clean title car. Engines seem to be in the 10-15K range. I will tell you from experience that parting a car is a lot of work! I parted my 75 donor chassis and ended up putting it on the used parts forum using "call your cut and your price"

Parting a car takes time and effort. How many hours do you have to remove parts, list for sale, answer questions, pack and ship. Parts take 3X as much space as the car. Many parts will take time to sell. Have fun.

Even as a track car it would be better off than to get parted out. I am sure you will sell the car even with its history.

I might even be interested at the right price :-)

You are over-discounting the branded title. If you are done with the car sell the car. You get paid about $1/hr for your labor on a part out.

Sell it to Europe and the salvage title is soon forgotten.

Let me know if you are planning to sell the car.

I'm in Parma if you're interested to set up a time to check it out.

Don’t waste your time with itza! He won’t be able to come see the car for 2 months.
