Looking for BaT buyers / sellers

Hello,

I am conducting my own, independent research as it pertains to your overall Bringatrailer.com (BaT) experience. I want hear about what you think works well, what you think needs improvement, etc.

Typical conversations will be 15 - 30 minutes. For your time, I am offering $50 sent to your PayPal account or sent via a gift card with $50 cash value, your choice. I am not affiliated with BaT and I am limiting the number to 7 - 10 interviews. First come, first serve. I will ask some pre-qualification questions upfront to make sure we are not wasting each other's time.

Please PM me or send an email to: biddeman at yahoo dot com

Mike

Yes a third category would be unsuccessful bidders.

The nit picking by the gallery can get annoying. Seems 7 days is too long of an auction time. Real bidding happens in the last 5 minutes. In general, I don’t see any real bargains over there especially paying the 5%. Tim

I used to be in agreement. Although allot of the commentary is ludicrous, I think that overall the comments help to ferret out issues.
From what I’ve seen, it’s a much better platform for the seller. Some of the hammer prices are utterly ridiculous.

^^^^exactly!! This is the “golden ticket” that makes BAT successful. This is what makes this online auction bring numbers that rival and in some cases exceed live auction. There are often several to many experts in that “peanut gallery” that help support a solid example and conversely help pick apart a bad apple. My dad has a Tiger GT of which they only made 15. I learned so much about his car from that peanut gallery. It was excellent

If you're confident in what you are selling there should be no reason to hold back. I've sold 2 cars through BAT successfully with minimal to no silly comments.

I've bought and sold on BaT but I'm deathly afraid of people and as a sovereign citizen, don't believe in using your US currency to transact commerce.

Would be interesting if you show your BAT lisitngs and how you dealt with the silly peanut gallery. Maybe we can learn something, thanks.

After reporting the seller to BAT, as they request you do first in any dispute, they just 'did a Julius Caesar' i.e. washed their hands of it.

As did the seller.

Hence the current law suite.

Unfortunately this is possible in any and every scenario of buying a car. Even if inspected by a “professional” hired to do a PPI. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Some crooks have tremendous will to defraud others

I have sold 8 cars on bat and bought 1.

I set my expectations realistically and was pleased with the whole process.

If you have a solid, no-BS car and you are actively engaged, helpful and non-defensive in your interactions during the course of the auction, you have nothing to fear from the peanut gallery. However, if a car has issues that the seller is trying to hide or is less than forthright in their interaction with the auction participants, the peanut gallery will eat you up and spit you out. I kind of like that. It discourages BS.

If you are afraid of selling your car on BAT because of comments, you're not the kind of person I want to do business with. What have you got to hide?

The WORST part of the Cars for Sale forum on Pelican is the prohibition against making comments.

Exactly my point. Present the car with honesty...keeping in mind that your opinion will differ from others. An example of laziness is showing a photo of your hood being held up by a piece of wood. If that is the case, prepare yourself to get flamed. True that some of the commentators have no idea what they are talking about but you do have plenty of knowledgeable folks on there too. If you have thin skin, you may want to choose a different selling outfit.

Agreed 100%
I just wish they’d bring back the “sort by oldest response first” feature.

ive sold two cars on BaT. I enjoyed my experience both times and think that i received a good price on both vehicles sold.

Some commenters are annoying, however people still bid and are happy with their purchase. I still keep in contact with both people I've sold too.

Well said. If you're a casual seller BAT may have too much flame for you. If you know your car and the make model well inside, outside, well rounded knowledge then you'll do well.

I've enjoyed my experience as a seller. Had a guy from France buy a Ferrari 308 of mine. Very nice guy, still trade emails with him.

Great initiative. BaT is ripe for some total disruption. So much value still untapped. I've been thinking a lot about it myself but haven't gotten to a good plan yet. Good luck to you.
