93 964 3.8 Could you gents help me value it?

Hello everyone,

Preface to say, this has been a 20 year project, still to do, yet I may abandon due to some factors that don't add up. Though I've saved up some nice components, even if I finish it off, the biggest factor will come back to haunt me, that is, there is no room in this country to drive fast. I've done it before and regretted it. Therefore, considering that the sum of the parts/components are worth more than the finished product/car, I considering to sell the components.

The motor is out of a damaged car I bought and dismantled myself. I knew very well the broker and knew of the PO through them and others. Unfortunately I don't have any documentation to offer. This all happened 10 years ago. PO was previously connected to a Porsche dealer here I heard from two different sources.

The PO had the motor overhauled completely and made it out to 3.8 liter. They also had other mods to the 964 like front turbo shocks, RS mag wheels etc. However, they wrecked it shortly thereafter. Dead front hit on a post.

5 years ago I had a qualified Porsche mechanic put DC-2 camshafts in it for 900.00 (only for the install). He said to me that the motor was like new inside (zen zen ha****enai). My plan was then to put a 993 varioram intake, 2 inch headers stainless, and a chip that would run around 350 hp. All these parts I have with the others to make it fit my 89 carrera chassy. 6 years ago I bought a house in the countryside, repaired up a 69 911E and just been busy with other projects.

And there it sits on my lift table a well done up 3.8 964 engine.

Please help with value if you can,

Thankyou for the expertise!
bernard

the market in japan may not correlate with the collective knowledge of this group so it's hard to say. you may have to ship it to get decent value, but then you may get dinged due to reluctance of the actual state of the motor and the prohibitive cost to ship.

that all being said, what does a million yen equate to in US dollars? maybe the "whore" as you put it was more on point than you are willing to recognize....

apology to amg463

I'm truly sorry for what I said and I shouldn't have said that. Please forgive me for that.

Approximately $8,930 USD at a million yen. I may as well keep it for that kind of change. I guess I assumed it takes a bit of coin just to take a 3.6, completely overhaul, with the 3.8 displacement. A few days ago there was a similar question, but on 3.6 value. 15k was one answer. Also, someone said there that the demand far outweighs supply on the 3.6 market. But then my motor is a 3.8 so it may not apply in my case.

I have no idea, nor could I probably recognize the difference. I'll be near the engine by the weekend so I take some pictures and post them then. Thank you for the kind assistance!

Took pix of the motor today, will post them shortly if successful. Actually, today decoding the case no. It is not a 93y, but a 92. Also before i had a plan for headers, but they were stainless 1.7/8 inch not 2 inch. Otherwise engine
includes all in pictures i.e harness etc. and not in pix, CPU, the complete fan, shroud, alternator etc. I did up the outer fan shroud in powder coating, but never put in back on. A 993 varioram intake used, comes with it. Remember I install DC-2 cams after the event, so the black gizmo on back of motor was added at that time 5 years ago, and there it sits to this day, always inside and under cover.

Some numbers 62N82074, M64/03, top case 3227 twice, and head 2201285, or instead of 85, BS. Also on head two circles, one with 92 over 1, the other with 16 over 1 looks like.

Will try to post photos from now. Thanxs to all who can help!
Much obliged,
bernard
