Warning: dbailey1234
First I want to make it clear that I do not take this lightly. The internet is a permanent record but after months and months of assurances this is my only option.
I want to put out a warning out there for anyone considering purchasing anything from user dbailey1234 - David Bailey in Richardson Texas. You may or may not get what you paid for. I bought a euro 928 engine this past summer but had concerns about crankshaft endplay which he could not check himself so we agreed that I would make a partial payment and if it checked out good I would send the rest. So I did get the engine and the endplay was within spec. However I found the AC mount on the engine was broken off and laying on the floor of the shipping crate. The broken edges are dirty so this happened years ago and not during shipping. I'm willing to give the benefit of doubt that he did not know about it but these engine blocks are made of alusil alloy and are very difficult to weld properly. After some back and forth we agreed that I would send the rest of the payment in exchange for more parts like the MAF, airbox, computers, coils etc. This was agreed to on July 13 and on July 25 I received an air flow meter from 928 Intl. Well I don't care where the parts come from but this was incorrect, I needed a MAF sensor. An exchange was made and I got the proper MAF at the end of August. Since then I have not received anything else and gave him an ultimatum to send the items by this past Saturday or I would have to post publicly about how he operates. As far as the engine block, I have not been able to find anyone that can make these repairs without shipping it cross country. It is probably cheaper to buy another block but the bores would have to be the same tolerance group to use these euro pistons. I'm hoping this pressures him to send the rest of the parts, that is all I want. |
The end play was within spec and you bought it , where’s the warranty ?
The crack can easily happen in transit where it had an existing “partial” crack. The engine is at least 20 years old ! Sir, as a I post complainer I think your off base. ,My friend life is not perfect. Your buying known used parts. I think trying to “out” the seller is your error. I have been ripped off much worse in this site. He’s trying to send you other parts and you still complain ... really ?? You should have hired a local shop in the sellers town, had each part meticulously inspected and even x-rayed. Then, you could hire Johnny Cochran’s law firm and written a 14 page contract to protect your percieved customer service rights. You’ll want both the long form and short form contracts. Don’t forget to contact your local consumer protection agency also. Sorry for the rant ...but go buy a new car. |

He just wants the remaining parts that he paid for. You can't really be defending the seller!!! Send the parts.. |

Respectfully sirs. read it. He didn’t buy extra parts. He’s jacking the seller up . He bought the 25 yr old engine “subject to” end play results. They were good. Contract complete. Pay the man.
When he recieved it there may have been shipping damage(a/c mount) . That a different issue . It’s a 25 year old engine! No warranty bro. He can fix it but doesn’t want to pay to ship it to fix it and so he hit the guy for more. So the seller accommodated him to a certIn extent. I’m with the seller here. |
I bought a 2.4 on this site 2 years ago. 5 grand. The seller didnt send it. After a month I sent my guy 1000 miles and claimed the effin engine and brought it home. Caveat emptor !
How does outing the seller help his case ? Wine is for drinking, not complaining. |

An exchange was made and I got the proper MAF at the end of August. Sounds like op excepted the damage motor and paid the remaining balance. the seller agreed to send additional parts. Unfortunately only getting 1 side of the story, but I'll stand by my, SEND THE PARTS, YOU'VE BEEN PAID.. |

There’s barely any 928 traffic here. You want to let the 928 community know, take it to Rennlist.
|
The first post and it's to complain...about 928 parts. What's next. Amazing that people somehow equate "Market Place Discussion" with flaming someone down in Texas for some old 928 part dispute. You've got to be kidding me.
|
To be fair to the op, he didn’t post here because it’s a 928, he did so because his seller is a member on Pelican. Unless there’s a 928 specific marketplace forum, this does seem like a very appropriate place to air his concerns guys.
Good luck MajesticMoose. |

Porsche 928 Used Parts For Sale & Wanted - Pelican Parts Forums And my post wasn’t intended to be dismissive. It was offering guidance to the widest audience. |
Yes the engine was insured for shipping and I could post photos of the broken mount but it was definitely not broken in transit and that is besides the point. I accepted the engine as is in exchange for more parts. This was agreed to, I paid in full immediately and have been waiting for 3.5 months. I warned the seller I would post publicly on Oct 1 and that did not motivate any action. I am a reasonable and patient person. We made an agreement and I held up my end of it.
brianvb, sorry you have been ripped off before but I fail to see how that means it is ok for anyone else. What did you do about it? Have you warned anyone else? You should have. I'm not proud that this is my first post here, I'm a rennlister and only occasionally come to this site. I figured this was the best place to post because the seller has had other items for sale, BMW, 944 parts etc. |
MajesticMoose...
Did you find the for sale ad on Pelican? Or was it posted somewhere else? |
Yes in the 928 used parts for sale area:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-928-used-parts-sale-wanted/991706-1984-porsche-928s-euro-row-full-part-out.html |
Used parts, especially engines, are a crapshoot...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1540828310.jpg but maybe in this case it's a moose... |
MM.... did you buy the motor sight unseen? Meaning you didn't even see a single photo of the motor before you bought it?
I've not shipped or bought a complete motor but I surely have bought and sold a heck of a lot of parts over this forum and others. Even for small parts still I like to see a couple photos. When I ship stuff that I've sold I typically take a photo or three of how it looks when I ship it and how I pack it. Takes just a few moment to ask for photos or take em. I don't know if the AC mount was in tact or not when you purchased the motor, I don't see how you could know either. That being said, if you and the seller made an agreement and he's still not coming through, then I understand you may be a bit pissed. Three sides to every story. |

you got that much right. |

To try and address as many questions as possible in as few post as possible, I will start here:
I sent the engine 'as-is', but I did get shipping insurance just in-case something went wrong. I don't have a 928 and as mentioned by Alex, I did not know how to check the end-play so I sent it off in hopes that it was good. The engine was a low mileage unit, but as mentioned it is greater than 30 years old. I had no idea that it was damaged until I was told that there was a break and a piece broke off in shipping. I was encouraged not to file a claim, so I didn't. Alex said that it would probably cost $300-400 to repair the damage so I said to myself, '$400 isn't too bad' and I should have just refunded him by that amount. Would have been a lot easier. Instead, we talked about the parts. Requested parts: MAF - bought from 928 international for $450 shipped So at that, I'm out. I wasn't at fault for the damage and was encouraged not to file a claim. Let me know if anyone is looking to give away the following parts for free: Engine computers (both) Ignition amps w/wiring x2 Airbox Ignition coils and brackets I was warned that a smear job was in the works, but I had no time to devote to finding and shipping all of these parts. Over the past few years I've maybe sold a handful of parts on pelican and I'm not on rennlist. |
