Then of course, the Stratton ducks... Not factory, but don't cost an arm & a leg either:D

Look at the tail on the Blue 74, it has the tag light holes.

robertmark 01-16-2019 02:35 PM

I don’t see any holes in the tail. ????

Just above the latch in the pic ...

license plate lights on the bottom of the engine lid, two slotted holes, would only be functional on longhoods as the impact bumbers have the reflector in place of the license plate.

Yeah I have not seen either one personally of those you described. Whats even stranger is the whale tails with tag lights. I'm guessing when Porsche abandoned the duck they still had metal frames left and so they started glassing the whales on them

Some of the very early 74 ducks with the tag lights are filled in with metal plates that are crudly attched with screws.

These hand built cars are a reflection of reaching into the' parts bin" and whatever the hand grabed was installed.

Yeah definitely have seen those as previously mentioned but I wouldn’t consider that “filled in” as you can simply remove the screws and the plates. Have you seen a ‘74 that actually doesn’t have the lamp holes at all?

So I bought a 72 and during ppi was told it was a real factory ducktail. (Not original but added many years ago) What’s it worth? Not selling just curious.

How does one tell if it is a factory ducktail?
Thanks!

Have the read the various threads on here and look at various books like snodgrass’ carrera 2.7 book. Large quantity can be ruled out if they are all fiberglass

You probably just haven't spent enough time looking at rusty longhood cars!

I think ( could be wrong) many of the later builds had the next gen lids with no holes.

This is the second 74 carrera i have owned and both late build with no hole lids. I also have a friend who is original owner of his, later build and no holes.

Wish these cars could talk to tell us their secrets.

What confuses me is if they still had frames leftover to use on the first group of whale tails it seems that they would not have run out of them during ducktail production?

The only outlier I can think of - could CA equipment cars have been treated/ built differently?

The COA on my current 74 states CA equipment (not US equipment as most COAs reflect) also has CA emissions decal on drivers rear window. My friends car is also original CA car.
