PORSCHE 911 TURBO For sale

The following car is for sale and I'm not sure if it's worth the price and if the modifications warrant concern. Thoughts?

I wonder what an extended warranty covers...

I do not know these turbos very well. Originality tends to offer more value. Certainly this on is not origional which means you can save same money. So, you may have found a good one with a few more miles than usual too. I’m sure someone who knows the market better will chime in.

I'm particularly curious about the engine rebuild and the Garrett GT35R Turbo. Is it normal for these cars – 964 Turbos to require rebuilds every +/- 100k miles? Is it common to see Garrett GT35R Turbo’s added as an upgrade to these cars?

Difficult to put a precise mileage number on engine rebuild needed, but the higher head and cylinder temps and pressures of the turbo engines are hard on the valvetrain, and if owners turn up the boost with reckless abandon, then the piston rings and ringlands take a beating from detonation. I see that a cam change was done, so maybe the complete rebuild was part of the "while you're in there" bit, or perhaps high cylinder leakage numbers showed up during a service (not to mention that that engine had the lame-o dilivar head studs, top and bottom, that are prone to breakage, and/or insufficient clamping force that leads to fretting of the cylinder head/cylinder mating surface . . . it wasn't unit the 993TT that Porsche got the studs right - a many decade joke, really).

The Garrett GT35R turbo is a common unit used by people who mod and are willing to have some light fab work done to exhaust plumbing . . . I've never been in a Turbo with on of those, but many who have used them in the 930 Forum say that they are most excellent and a big improvement over even the 3K K27 7200 turbochargers that came on those cars (which are themselves a huge improvement over the horrendous, 3K 3LDZ that Porsche used from the 1976-1990).

Seeing in the listing that the car has a modified WUR is a good sign; you can't put a turbocharger like that on one of these without making the WUR adjustable (particularly for full throttle enrichment control pressure) without asking for big trouble (detonation under boost).

The air-to-fuel ratio instrument installed in the tach is super cool (and very useful)!

Having owned one of these with a built motor and electromotive ignition, it can be troublesome chasing down issues. Depending on how everything was tied into the stock system. Some parts like the EZ69’s and turbo boost control modules are getting hard to find. I sold mine in 2012, but do miss it.

I like how the ad says it’s original and then talks about the PSS9’s......

I saw a really clean one just go for $129k with half the miles.

Ummm. Ditto.
I replaced the stock turbo with a GT35R twin scroll and RarlyL8 headers with dual waste gates.
The driving experience goes from Buuuuuuuu WAIT for it..... To roll into it and spin 315s before you cross the intersection.
So YUP; the Garrett is worth it. Other mods like cams, WUR and exhaust help it work.

Priced high for higher mileage modded 964 Turbo. The mods along with the seats and stereo choices personally scare me off. I would really need to have the full history of the that car if I was to consider it.

Such a nice feeling to get rid of turbo lag and get acceleration that breaks em loose without the off on bang with the lesser turbos. Only problem is hitting redline when the tires are @ 60mph and the car at around 45MPH instead of 60MPH. Gotta be fast on the throttle lift, get larger stickier tires, or short shift.

I wish that multigauge in the tach was still being made. I would love to have one of those in mine.

I've got one in mine that I may be swapping out for something else. I would need a stock tach for trade. Send me a PM.

I really like that 964 turbo. Good mods don't scare me. The stereo stuff in that car is good quality and easy to swap around if you don't like it.
