I too find the nostalgia funny. Whomever buys this car is going to turn it back to a longmose. I guarantee it.
|
I love all the guys that tell you to keep it.
That is my problem, I keep them all....I recently started selling off some of the Porsches that I will never restore due to time or interest, that is allowing me to concentrate on the cars that I love and it is less stressful and definitely more satisfying. Sell it, concentrate on your race car and other toys. Breaking it up will get you the most money but also takes much more time and effort. |
I do like the look of the car as it stands.
As I said from the beginning it would not be worth bringing it back to 72 standards, unless it was a S. It is good as it stands because the current engine, body, and interior would be fine for a driver. If you want to bring it back everything would have to be sold (engine, 915, interior, panels) - all new longhood panels would have to be procured, body painted, a suitable engine found - the list is endless. Then what would have you have? A non-original '72 with a non-original engine, and then wait for it....an original Sporto trans. It is an original Sporto. We'll see. |

Matt, love the car you posted. That was along the lines of what I envisioned years back.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I have some things to think about. I also have another 911 that I may consider selling (I'll put together a post as that one is also a bit of a puzzle to sort pricing on) or put both out there and keep whichever one does not sell. I've got a buddy who sold a very nice SC through BAT. It wasn't a bad experience but I think he ended up leaving $5k on the table when all was said and done and the buyer turned out to be a pain in the ass. He got his money but I think he regretted the process a bit. |
I decided to put the car on BAT and see what happens. Should be interesting. The color was actually VW Silver Metallic per the paint code.
|
Unlucky it stopped just under $20k, looked like it was going to go on a roll for a minute.
How was the BAT experience ? how far off was the bidding ? |
You may get most of your 20k by selling the motor and webbers, then parting out the rest and sell the bare chassis for ~5k

Car attracted bids from some familiar names here. What happened to it between the 89 bare shell "restoration" and 2006 leading to this rust damage ? https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content...303_142727.jpg |
Damn, the BaT ding for what many mistakenly perceive as a slushbox is harsh!
|
It was close and I'm working on a deal with one of the bidders, will update once that is complete.
The process was ok. BAT is very hands off, or at least the person I dealt with was. They really just facilitated getting it on the site. |

The car is off to its new home and life. Engine and trans were pulled and sold as a roller to one of the BAT bidders. I appreciate the comments made here. The BAT process was interesting as well.
Anyone need a 4 speed sporto trans? :-) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1554923895.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1554923895.jpg |
Thanks Jerry, it’s been a pleasure.
