Whenever I think about selling anything from my fleet, the two questions I come back to are:
1) How easy will it be for me to find another one of the one I'm selling, for a reasonable price? 2) How much will I regret selling it if I can't find another one for a reasonable price? Regret is a terrible feeling and you'll find lots of postings in these forums from folks who sold their cars too soon and regretted it. |

Meanwhile, everything of a high performance limited production nature is big bucks going back to the 1930s at the least. Heck, I’d take a 1970 Ram Air III Formula Firebird. Like an old 911 about $40K for an original example. Same with many others...

Having bought and sold hundreds of Porsches jaguars,190sl british sport cars and every muscle cars on the planet, there is is a window of time in which all types of cars are hot! I have watched the values of muscle cars continue to drop, and Porsches air cooled are following that trend, millennial don,t care about the classic,s they like rice rockets, sell before the boat leaves.

As Bob Dylan says, "Funny, how the things you have the hardest time parting with Are the things you need the least." I agree. But when people are reading and hanging onto this strange string of so-called future values I say its time to sell. It's not worth it to store, moth-ball, insure, or generally worry about to maybe make a couple grand. A SC is not a RS. And hilariously now, a SC is not even a midyear. |

Totally agree, Private Sal, and along those lines, it seems like the peeps who talk about not driving their cars due to worry about what might happen to them , or the horror of adding miles and wear and tear to the machine, might be better off selling, as well.

Except for the very rare collector car, which most of us can't afford anyways, classic cars are a horrible investment! Sure, you can usually make your $$ back on what you paid initially, but when considering insurance, maintenance, tax, fuel and storage, you're gonna take a hit financially. The aircooled 911 is a car to be loved, cherished, enjoyed and DRIVEN!!! That is the payoff! That is the investment. To me, no other classic car offers that. The aircooled 911 experience is enough for me. If you're looking for an investment, buy into AOC's "GREEN NEW DEAL"...it's a sure thing.

Compare costs of ownership:
1) 3.2 G50 bought in 2013 vs. 2) ANY new vehicle 2013

This is a ridiculous comparison.... why would you compare a 25 year old car that's already been through the decay cycle to "any" new car? What makes the comparison even less relevant even more ridiculous is your time frame. You want to compare them just prior to the biggest price jump ever for the G50 model, an appreciation which did not continue and cannot continue.

People sell their cars for all sorts of reasons, they just don't need to post about it. Go read the classified section....."selling because I just don't use it much anymore" You'll see that one plenty too, big deal.

On the contrary, I continue to see / have seen plenty of it. If you choose to ignore it, don't mistake that for there not being any. Also, why would a seller post about regret in a for sale posting? -- he hasn't sold it yet. The regret part comes AFTER the sale. Last edited by kreeshp; 03-12-2019 at 09:27 PM.. |

Having owned dozens of P cars in my 40 + years drving them, I have never been a collector or keeper. I enjoy, take great care, enjoy them and pass along. I always loose money. Dont care about cars as investments.
Each car is different and each car is enjoyed for its uniqueness. From 1973 911S to my two 930s and many many cars in between now modern cars. All fun and different. Life is short. Enjoy.
