Lets discuss the magenta euro Carrera on P-car Market

This car unfortunately has a very storied past that includes but is not limited to:
-was converted to a slant nose at one time
-was being sold as an RS/RSR on ebay
-had a 73 RS motor in it at one time with the same serial number as someone else's 73 RS motor. The "8" on the motor looked very suspicious
-now has its "original" '74 motor motor but without any story of how it was found
-Front stamped vin was reproduced as it was double vision and wrong front, not sure how it currently looks
-aluminum vin was missing, not sure if its still missing

This will be interesting to see how P-car market handles. I hope they let the comments go uncensored as that's the right thing to do. It's an unfortunate foot to start out on but it's not their fault with the exception that perhaps they should do some of their own due diligence on high profile cars. Maybe all press is good press for them.

With its checkered history, it's safe to call it a tribute car. The engine's worth a few shekels, no argument there.

do you think they got a blank case and restamped?

I have been looking for the original 2.7 for my 75 for several years without any leads. perhaps they found where it was through a previous owner?

its not impossible to find a missing motor however the story of how it was found surely is one to talk if not brag about. As far as blank case that has been stamped it's completely possible and fairly common relatively speaking. To be honest it gives no less tangible value but cars with bad stories will always be worth less than cars with no story and cars with good stories could be worth more than all.

It looks like the discussion had been going on for years on the other forum. Why bother? If someone wants to pay $275k for a Mary Kay car they have bigger issues than the numbers matching.

I believe MIB is a bidder. What does he think about the engine?

Car is worth every bit of $250-300k if it was a clean, no story car. Magenta is the unicorn color in my opinion on this car and no not the My Little Pony kind of unicorn lol. This will be interesting to see how high it goes with all the baggage. My guess is $150-175k. MIB is he? Which user?

I've got a 74 911/83 case that someone scraped the serial number off of to make a fake "unstamped" replacement case. I bought it to put into my 74, just because. I thought it would be funny to run around in this old salvage title 74 911 normal with a Carrera engine in it. Kind of a thumb the nose at the collector crowd when it comes down to it.

That would be fun and funny to do. I recently came across what I thought was a blank 911/83 motor and I was a bit confused as it had the 911/83 but no serial number. In the past I’ve seen where it’s blank in both the serial number and the engine type. On close inspection it looked super clean and didn’t look like any tampering had been done but my spidey senses were tingling. I got the story on the case and where it came from and it all sounded too familiar. I asked about the owners car color and it all clicked. I know this story. I know this case. I have seen this case. When I saw this case last it had its serial numbers freshly removed and for good reason as they were clearly counterfitted and actually overlapped an engine with the same numbers. The crazy thing is from the last time I saw it until now they had made it look like a factory blank case. Buyer beware!! It was not cheap either.

This RS reminds me of George Washington’s axe (or was it Abe Lincoln): Handle’s been replaced twice and the head once, but otherwise it’s all original.

I've seen them both totally unstamped and only stamped with a type number. Vasek, and then Carl Thompson, had a bunch of new replacement cases back in the day. Most of the ones I've seen with type number only were complete longblocks assembled at Porsche and not just a bare case. That would make sense since obviously something like an MFI 2.7 is going to use very different components (like P&C and cams, etc) than just a regular old 2.7 normal or S.

That makes sense definitely for the MFI drive but I always wondered what other differences there were I thought the pistons and cylinders were the same as an S or US Carrera. I need to actually figure all of that out
