Why a dearth of '85MY 911's?
Is it just me, or are there very few 1985 911's offered for sale? Were the production numbers down for that year? Are the cars just great to own and few wish to part with them? Just wondered if any of you have noticed the same.

I believe 86 was the peak of the Gs followed by 87 and 85. Prior to the 10/87 stock market crash.
88 was down. |

As an owner of a 1985 for the last 30 years, I can only give my opinion. I love it. I will not part with it. It has been just about bulletproof for the last 250,000 miles. It is a joy to drive.

85 was the lowest volume year of the 3.2 Carrera run

Interesting list.
Does it include turbos? There’s a big production number drop 79-80 and 85-86 when the US market lost the 930 and then got it back.

Yes - includes turbo. What’s really interesting to me with this list is the massive increase in volume beginning with the rollout of the 996 line. The changes to the manufacturing processes and using shared components between the 996 & 986 doubled the volume from the last year of 993 production.

@Jabborwocky - great list. Thanks for sharing. You really get a sense of the ebb and flow the volume over years. I had an 85 and didn't see very many when I bought it. 86 and 87, definitely more available then and now. Of those, 40% of the G's were RED and a large amount black.

Just curious if there is a breakdown of the yearly production numbers - row vs. NA or coupe, cab, targa?
I have an 85 euro cab and am just curious how many were made. |

Haha, no worries, unfortunately I do remember it...I got my bachelor's degree in 1980 and headed right back into grad school so I could get a job that didn't involve punching a time clock. Employment options were pretty dire!

If 930s are included in this list, the drop off from 79-80 and sharp increase from 85-86 is the likely reason.

Woah! That's a lot of "fried eggs". I wonder if there was an egg deficiency till the 997 kicked in.
