color

I read on hagarty that silver is the color most likely to attain the highest selling price.
What's everyone else think for the aircooled backdated long hood cars?

The quality of the build is what's going to matter most on a backdate build. Color is all preference. Hagarty don't know what they are talking about when it comes to backdates also.

agree on the statement it's the quality of the build - color may attract you or turn you off, but ultimatly it's whats under the paint.

The commonest color is the most valuable.

Yeah - not sure I agree with that assertion.

When I looked at online valuation tool for 74 & 75 carrera- it was the bright colors ( Yellow, Green, Orange, Blue) that they said increased the value.

I really hate the idea that I’m worrying about this when deciding on a color. Ultimately I’d like a white or dark gray with the color of the interior I have, or silver or black. Perhaps a dark black cherry. But I lean toward silver or black for resale.

The 72 I'm "rightdating" was originally silver.

I hate silver.

For a long time, backdates did the best painted Tangerine. I believe Viper Green would also be in the premium color category. And the ever-popular Slate Gray.

My philosophy is that you don't want to try for the middle of the market with an inoffensive color, but you'll do better with a love/hate color.

Personally, on my 72, I'm going off the chart with a special color mix that's closer to Aetna Blue, which is a non-metallic.

I'm quite sure the car will be a crowd-pleaser in that color, while silver is too common, IMO.

I have a silver ‘74 / ‘75 anniversary edition I’m backdating. (Not good enough to save as anything other than a hot rod) and even though it started silver, it’s going to be anything but silver when (if) I ever get it finished!

I agree with the comment of ‘safety’ colors. Choose one of those you like and you won’t go far wrong. Also metalics can be a real pain to match should you decide to change anything!

I could recommend the original light ivory, if white. It's a classic white, and Raw man would approve even if you didn't turbo the car.

I kinda hate silver because there are so many modern Porsches that are silver. But with the longhood cars the color was not overly used. I really like the few I have seen silver.
I can honestly say a silver longhood with all the bright trim is beautiful and would definitely get peoples attention at an auction.

I like silver 356s. It harkens back to their racing.

As far as silver, I like it for the way it looks. I had a 1972 911 T Targa that was silver and it looked great. I agree it does show well however my only complaint I might have are that it is a little soft. My car is kind of a bad ass and I don’t want to lose too much of that by going long hood. That’s why I like a dark gray or a black. White is nice, and it would look great with my martini racing stripes as well as all the other colors I’m considering. I don’t think I want to dance anymore, my car with 315 rear tires is a difficult car to dance with and I am less interested in that now.
