How to Determine Car value

I am starting a new post regarding the total loss of my 84 Carrera last week. The insurance company called and said the adjuster placed a valued of 19k on the car. He said I can talk to the total loss department and try to convince the of a higher value.

What is the best way to credibly determine the value of a 911?

NADA says 37k is average and Haggerty says 43k is average.

19k is laughable. 43 is definitely closer to what it would take to buy a similar car. It looked clean and sorted, so over 45 is my estimate.

The best way to credibly tell the value is to tell your insurance company to replace it. Tell them you want a new 84 Carrera, similar mileage, upgrades etc. Don't sign anything or agree to anything until you get your number. I take it you didn't have agreed value on the policy?

BTW I could part your wreck for over 19k. A complete running 3.2 is 16-20k on the classified alone.

Go look at recent completed sales on BaT and EBay and show them you the insurance company, along with the Hagerty values.

Point me to the other thread if you already answered this question, but what type of insurance do you have? It does not sound like it was an agreed value policy.

You may want to ask your insurance company for an adjuster who specializes in classic cars. Amazing that they could be this clueless on values- a simple internet search would cause them to question their quote of 19k.

Who is your insurance company? I have agreed value with State Farm on my 89 speedster. As the values kept going through the roof, I requested a higher agreed value. They said to supply proof of what my speedster was selling for recently, as they were reluctant to increase it. I sent them some auction results, along with a letter from the company I purchased it from 20 years earlier. Upon reviewing that, they honored my data and increased the agreed value. I would hope your company would accept this type of data to justify a much higher value than what they're offering. Good luck!!

It's truly is a negotiation.

Your photos, service records and parts receipts, sold values and overall condition will have a major impact on how the adjuster will treat your cars values.

Remember, even the best insurance company has their best interest in mind. They cant over pay or all of our insurance premiums would sky rocket. On the other hand they do want to treat you well but you must do a little work if your car is above average and you can prove it.

Thanks guys. I found two on BAT that are close comps. One sold for 32.5k but had 200k miles. The other one got to 37k but did not meet the reserve and had 147k miles. Mine had 155k miles.

I have all the records from the last 15 years I’ve owned it. So I should have no problem showing it was properly maintained. I also have dyno results from a few years ago that shows (assuming 12% drive train loss) 230 BHP. That should be a good indication of the condition of the motor.

I had a '75 which caught on fire. The first offer from the insurance company was about the same as what they offered you. I pushed back and sent a number of comparable car for sale ads. They then had an appraiser put a value on the car. His number was about $10k higher.

I think you have to show them at least 3 cars that sold in the same condition and I report them to the state insurance department.

They have to show you proof of compared vehicles in the same condition as yours in order to determine value.

All insurance companies are out to screw everybody . They dont care . They only do what the law lets them

Go car shopping for your car’s replacement. There’s nothing more real and actual than that. If the amount that they are offering does not replace your car with as similar as humanly possible of a car then show them your findings. A judge would side with because they owe for the replacement plus tax and license

Your insurance company should have a ccc evaluation report that shows how they determined this value. Ask them to send you this report which depicts the comparable cars and adjustments used to come up with the actual cash value of your vehicle. If I had to guess their report is extremely outdated or inaccurate and these comparable cars don't exist.
