1978 911 SC Value

I have a 1978 911 SC Targa Talbot yellow with cork interior. 150000 miles. Perfect rust free body, car came from Arizona. Dash pad has been replaced along with a new windshield. Rest of the interior needs to be replaced due to sun damage. Car is not running due to fuel distributer problem. Tires have zero miles but are 10 years old. Perfect cookie cutter wheels. Other than the radio missing the car is complete. Needs to be repainted to be perfect.
I had heart surgery this spring and I am now looking at knee replacement. Body is shot. Very hard for me to work on the 911. Thinking about selling on Craigslist wondering what to ask for it. Thanks

Coupe or Targa? Craigslist blows. The car will have more value if you get it running first.

I'd say on the high side you might be able to get $20k - but you'll likely get offers much lower.

15 would be low and 20 would be high. My guess

Get it running. Some people like drivers that run well that they don't need to look perfect.

A few grand spent now doing so will yield a higher sales price somewhere in the mid $20's.

Agreed, and it’s a decent color combo with good “bones,” so it would make someone a good project. I like early SC’s, they tend have to fewer options and better colors (80’s all seem to be red, white, black, or silver), simple high flow CIS, and large port heads.

A running/driving early SC with a decent 915 should see the low 20’s at least. You are probably looking at some CIS work and rebuilding the brake calipers at least.

Make it a running driver to maximize the low end price. The roached interior/paint plus unknown mechanicals would cost more than it’s currently worth to put right...

Stay away from Craigslist for this. Lots of flakes on there. Get it running first. If it sat with bad fuel, you will most likely need a new fuel distributor.

. . .
You just listed the three most suitable colors for a 911 (silver isn't one of them) - much more betterer than the foo foo, excrement, and geezer colors of earlier models.

Whoops, I take back my, "Silver isn't one of them" - that looks really good (especially since it has a proper tail)! Plus, I don't want NastyNick's feeling being hurt, considering his azz is probably getting enough hurt from his unexpected, top end overhaul job!

Not to mention I don't want silver to be lumped in with foo foo, excrement, or geezer - way above those on even its worst day!

Rawk! When I get my car back from the shop in 2021 it will be the best running car on the forums! Will not be as fast as your turbo but heck, they are all turbo’s now!!!! HA!!! Also, I just got the final estimate and it is just not that bad. OK, it’s bad, but do we really need to eat every day???

No pics so its all conjecture. Talbot yellow is not everyones taste, there were a couple hanging around on the samba for a long time.
No mention of head studs
Car needs interior
Needs tires
15" wheels not fuchs
Car is not running due to undiagnosed problem
150k plus miles
Paint job is average
OP as it sits this is a 15k car. The market is completely flat for Porsches. If you are serious about selling Id list at around $17,400 and of someone offers $15,5 take it and don't look back

Back to our regularly scheduled programming, I think you'd be better off listing it here before I'd deal with all the weirdos from Craiglist. At least on here I think you have more knowledgable buyers.

On another note. I have a similar set of circumstances in that I just had 3 heart surgeries, a triple, bypass, 2 stents, and all of that damaged my kidneys and they quit working so now I'm on dialysis every other day yet I drag my as out to my shop every day to work in my cars and I find that it gives me purpose and a feeling of accomplishment in an other pretty depressing situation.

I would give it some time before you decide to get rid of it because chances are your immediate feelings of uselessness will subside and I think you'll regret your choice to sell it when you start feeling a little more human again.
I had the same thoughts after I got home from 44 days in the hospital and physical therapy so I could walk again and I'm glad I procrastinated because these days working on my cars are what keeps me going (along with my loving family).
Tony
