More irrational exuberance on BAT
Watching the auction of an 82 911SC coupe on BAT with fascination.
Well presented car, with some red flags. The peanut gallery seems completely in love with the seller and is pushing a few folks to put up extraordinary bids for a really nice driver. This one could set a new SC record tomorrow. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1982-porsche-911sc-47/

Do not understand how people allow themselves to be pushed.
This car has been modified from original form and that alone should substantially discount the car. Auctions...... what hasn't been said.....

Original or Not; Someone went through this car with a toothbrush.
It will bring good money from the person that doesn't want to do squat to an old Porsche they just bought.

You don't buy the car, you buy the seller.
Or, you buy the car based on what a few dudes who supposedly know the guy selling the car say about him in the comments section of the site where you're buying the car. |

I did an inspection of this car for a distant client. And all my reports are exclusive property of the client, so I can't share my observations, but suffice it to say this car is at about 95% of appropriate market price (including BAT fee) and there's more than a day to go.

What a nice car. Clearly there are those who feel more security buying low mileage examples versus regularly driven or restored vehicles.
While I'm enthused about the price, I can't help but think about what $73K could buy. I'm sure I'd not spend that kind of dough on a trailer queen, but people do, ALL the time. Make no mistake: this car will not be driven. Every mile will be costly from here on in. Very well sold.

Very impressive number for a car with questionable mileage history and paint.

Uh, that paint. It might be nice looking but even the web pictures were enough show what's gone on in the past.

The BAT peanut gallery take a 'set' on the auction car by day 3 and stick with it. In the case of the subject car, I felt it was like a crowd yelling at a man up on a ledge: "Jump! Jump!"

Ha. Auctions sometimes turn into dick measuring contests. The hallucinogen being used could be testosterone...

Getting drunk on the BaT kool aid makes for an ugly hangover when the car arrives. I bet SC will stand for Sh|t Christ! What did I do?!?

Ha. I have to say the issue to me is not the condition of the car -- which is about as good as it can be. The issue is that two main claims about the car were untrue. And as our buddy Nathanbs said, original paint could be worth up to $20K more. Ironically, I think the car could have come very close to the final bid based on what it really was as opposed to what it was purported to be...

Did anyone comment that the speedo was not original for 1982 (KPH & MPH)? I would never trust mileage without a photo of the VDO date stamp on the back.
Likely that an 85mph unit was replaced at some time. Last edited by rlane930; 06-28-2019 at 05:41 PM.. |
