Because you have to be partly crazy to take on a lost cause like this.

Dude, did you even look at the pics at the top of page one? Here's a reminder:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1562479082.JPG

Do you think a car that has rotted so much that it's now partially underground will, with a quick scrub down, be back on the road as a "patina ride?"

The middle of this car has become dust. Dust, I say.

Leather still looks pliable.

Dash is pristine.

A complete straight original car unlike the rusted out hulks in the pic I posted earlier, I say there's extra value here.

You know, you are right in one sense. But look, it's only money.

If you can find buyers for these, there's definitely a buyer for that.

It’s all about the post count, content itself be damned, he can’t come up from the basement for dinner tonight until he hits 4K posts.

Some POR15, rustoleum, floor pans. No big deal.
Cheap driver.

$800 in sheet metal, see link.

Everyone who says cars like this shouldn't and can't be restored is lacking vision. Same as everyone saying a car like this has no value. Luckily you aren't arguing with me on this point, you're arguing with the market, and the market always has the last word.

I sold this car a few weeks ago for $9600, that's value.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/283514657789

And before a few of you come out of holes and say things like "there's a sucker born every minute" or "only an idiot would buy that car" I remind you of the story I've told for years about a friend who bought a car in the early 80s for $10,000, everyone laughed at him, it was burned and missing the motor, he would never get his money out, he'd be upside down forever. He worked slow but steady and the car is now almost restored. The car is 550-0054, and I don't think he's upside down on the value. Decades from now rough 356's will be restored, and the world will be a better place because of it.

Mocker 08-14-2019 06:21 AM

Newsflash: Nobody said it "shouldn't and can't be restored."

What we said is that it will take more than a little POR15 and rubbing compound. There's a huge section of the chassis missing on this car. It will be a major project, requiring fabrication skills almost nobody on this forum possesses.

Somebody early in the thread put a value of $10k, which seems about right--and is consistent with your eBay sale.

Newsflash, plenty of guys were piling on that it was yard art and worthless. Just pointing out that the market proves their armchair quarterbacking wrong.

"Plenty of guys" is actually one guy saying the same thing over and over, but whatever, you win.

You should go back and re-read.

I called Yard Art. IMO; that was very high praise because I was thinking about it being located in my yard........

Obviously; anything can be restored. It has been proven and documented countless times.....

What is it worth.... strictly up to the buyer.... what as the seller should you ask? I do not think you would find more of an authority than Adam........

Hell yes there's value here! Where is this car I'll buy it, if priced right. That doesn't look like dust to me, probably a former owners cremated remains.
Nothing beats a 356!!!

Just don't call it a VW. That's his trigger.

But it is just a smushed down VW bug.

I'm admiring the coolness of the compost pile in the front seats!

red77911s 08-14-2019 09:52 PM

That's not compost, it's virgin prairie topsoil kicked into the car through the nonexistent floor pans by a groundhog whose hole is directly under the tunnel.

Hey Matt,

Curious, how do you use your keyboard with a thumb in your mouth at all times?
Grow up man, just saying!!

I had one with similar dirt once, the guy parked it in the back yard, every year it would wash out, the ground would get higher and the car would get lower, we barely got it out in one piece. As far as the value? It was matching numbers, one owner, really, had the original title! Sold for $14,000 to a guy in Poland, and it took two guys to bid it that high so that was their price, not my price.

I was at a junkyard a few years ago and come across a fairly solid looking Packard. I'd never sat in one before, so I walked up to it and opened the door only to be met with the hissing of a mama raccoon and surprised look on all the faces of the juvenile raccoons. Shut the door just as quickly as I opened it and walked away. Lol. Guess I should have knocked first.

Strangest thing I've ever seen was a whole ecosystem in one car. Open one door, found a live snake looking at me, opened another door, huge ant hill, and then under the hood, lots of mice. An ecosystem I say!

At least it wasn’t venomous. A friend in Texas recently found a rattler in her Miata.

Snakes are like wild mushrooms, some are fine, some are deadly, the variations are subtle, so I avoid all, just in case.

Check out RUSTY TUBS in Atlanta, Ga who sells 356 parts in any condition. Prices for 356's parts including clips are wild!

elcarrera 09-13-2019 09:33 AM

I'd buy it and use it as garage art...
