My DP 935 II is the long windshield version as well, though it’s in project form unfortunately. Seeing this one makes me want to start that project. Knowing it’ll cost a lot and take a long time, though, is what’s prevented me from starting it yet. My other DP 935 would round out that auction pretty well, they're missing a turbo cab version. Good find Nathan, though I have seen all of these before except for the long windshield version, as the rest are local to me. Knowing how much RMC Miami is asking for the blue one, I kinda doubt these will sell, that is assuming the reserves are in line with their current asking prices. It’ll be interesting to monitor though, that’s for sure. |
Did not Mecum get this one to auction, but was NS? My favorite DP. It was a Kremer 1976 K2 single turbo 934. A while ago DP fitted it with a 962 motor ( heard ) @ 800HP. Lots of mine would need to find new homes. I guess I could rent out the space where those cars used to be. What a car!! Think I would take it before what DP's currently are being offered @ Monterey. Looks like DP used the similar treatment of this 77 to the rear of the 92" last one built". Someone buy it so I can have some peace.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1563848206.jpg

The rear. The last one built would be a close second on my list. John Starkey drove this one @ a rennsport reunion and remarked it was very fast.

I love the Car and Driver car. My Quarter Midget was painted the exact same way in 82.

Agreed.. as a couple of those cars have clearly been molested. The Ruf bits on the car and driver car? DP made their own ICs which were huge.. Rated at 390hp? This is a turbo charged Motronic car. The long windshield car is hot too.. however that the engine w/outward appearances looks to be a twin-turboed 3.2 given the intake and what looks to be Carrera dist. I've seen the RS IC before.. but not in a DP application. Wicked cars none the less but I'm thinking they'll need some serious change to put right once purchased. |
In some magazines, the ones with the DP intercooler (cast ends) were rated around 430hp...
DP was regularly working with RS tuning making some scary fast builds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFDp1MBgQJw |
Looks like the only one that would be street legal would be the blue one. That being said, the silver one would be my choice.
Funny how most of the DP’s and Kremer’s that come for sale are all missing the correct intercoolers. |

Still one of my favorites to drive after 20 years & 15K miles, and I have owned many others over the years. Now a 40 year old unrestored color to sample vintage hot rod , built 35 years ago to SN ( factory parts ) with period engine, transmission and suspension upgrades, and put together by Alan Johnson racing, San Diego in 83-84. Drive to track on Sunday and to work on Monday type of car that was the "thing to do" for some, back then. As some have mentioned, Mecum has extensive knowledge and contacts with getting unusual / rare Porsche models ( recently, the McQueen 930 comes to mind ) to auction over the decades. Mine was from one of the largest car collections in the USA. He seems to know these people, hence gets some pretty interesting / unusual offerings for his auctions. |

Ya, I know, but a DP or Kremer i/c would be icing on the cake. Unless there is extensive documentation on the motor, I’d plan on a full service and dyno time to see what’s what.

It may have started out as a Ruf build, but who knows who has laided their hands on it since. That’s why I would want a pape trail.

All 4 of the DPs didn't hammer last night. Not surprised at all. Sellers are dreamers.

Andretti 935 not bid way higher than the others ?
No wonder, the certification letter provided in Mecums display from DP Motorsports just states it appears to have been built with DP parts with out any mention of the " reportedly built for Mario Andretti ". I do remember a article by a French magazine reporter at that time visiting DP factory and interviewing a person working on a Dark Blue 935 street model mentioning that to him. Oh well maybe that is where that "reportedly built for him" info came from. An RS lightweight only $200K? Where were the often mentioned chandelier bids? If there was a real bidder and a realistic reserve the bidding could have gone on a long time. Lots of weakness across most bidding in all the auctions. May have been a great time to buy something. Maybe not just Porsche air cooled but everyone's bubble has leaks? |
So maybe the “reportedly built for Mario Andretti” is the one time the name dropping doesn’t help, as he never took delivery of the car from what Mecum was saying prior to the auction. He didn’t buy it, he rejected it for whatever reason prior to taking ownership. They should just let that car stand on its own - a DP935 II US version.
They are just too attached to sell their DPs. I bet we see all of them at Mecum Kissimmee next. |
The dark blue 935 was at Mecum either at the end of last year, or the beginning of this one. It got up to $300K (if the bid was real) with the reserve at $350K. I agree, drop the Mario Andretti thing.
The 2 red ones and the silver one (my favorite) would be a hard sell as I doubt they would be street legal in most states. |
This ‘55 was the coolest P this weekend:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1566176363.jpg
