It's easy to say the failure rate is only 1% or 2%. But it's 100% if it happens to you.

And bore scoring issues appear to be quite common. It's a 1, 2 punch with 997s.

They're cheap for a reason.

That price is at least $10k below market for a 08 C2S. Is it a Tip or Cab?? Those will trade at 10-20% lower than 6SP coupes.

As for IMS, you are solid with the '08. You cant and dont need to replace it. The IMS only effects '05 model year cars. It was changed in 06 to the larger bearing which solved the issue. The failure rate is so small its not ever worth worrying about. Lightning will hit you first. That being said '05 cars had a 10% failure rate, like the earlier 996s.

These are wonderful cars that are probably the best performance for money today. 997.2 with DFI is a great car but runs about $15-20k more and very hard to find 6SP, as most were sold with the PDK.

That price is so low you need to figure out why. But if it checks out buy it immediately. Thats the deal of the year. Low mile <45k 2006-2008 997.1 C2S 6SP coupe will trade from $42-48k, but ive seen prices start to climb a bit.

Make sure you get a PPI and if the car is a cold weather car you need to get the bores scoped to ensure there is no scoring. This is also rare but happens in cold weather 996s and 997s that weren't properly warmed up.

Head over to Rennlist 997 forum and read the 997 buyers guide. It will walk you through everything you need to know. I wrote it :-)

I bought one for my dad and being an air cooled snob I did not think that I would like it. It turns out that it is a fantastic car and a full 911.
