Thanks Pelican--Dealers Get Their Own FS Forum

Just noticed that all the dealers' cars have been moved to a separate forum.

Very nice thanks for doing that Pelican!

Can we call the forum “Porsche Cars for Sale by Dealer”?

Are some people just vehemently opposed to buying from a dealer? I don’t get what all the fuss is about over this, someone please enlighten me. Is being able to automatically weed out all of the dealers what everyone likes about this?

JMS,
Over the past year, my anecdotal experience is dealers have air-cooled cars priced at the very top of the market and beyond. $60K+ for most 3.2 Carreras.

In addition, I've run into some dishonest/non-transparent ones. You inquire about a car and the second you ask real questions, they go silent. I interpret that as they rather sell to an uneducated buyer.

That's my anecdotal data. Of course, I believe there are some honest and fantastic-to-deal-with dealers out there.

It seems that you’re not alone based on the responses here. I know dealers get a bad rap, and this isn’t me going to bat for them here at all, it’s just that I don’t like limiting myself when I want to add another car to my collection. It’s hard enough to find one I like, it’d be so much harder if I automatically decided I’d never buy from a dealer again. I’ve bought from dealers, dealers on consignment, as well as private parties, and to me it doesn’t matter who I’m buying from if it’s the car that I want, we can agree on on price, and it gets properly inspected beforehand. At this point in my collecting I’m only adding the rarest of examples, so to me it’s far more about the car than it is about who is selling it to me.

I would never buy a car from a flipper.
I want to buy from the owner, and get the full story.
I am the majority

My beef has always been they don’t follow the rules. They don’t list a price. They bump frequently. They put up more listings than are allowed. They monopolize a resource that was set up for the benefit of members. How does the guy with 1 car for sale get seen when you’ve got ten dealers with 5 cars each bumping you to page 2 or 3 all the time?

I’m not anti-dealer. Howver this is a diy forum for car owners. I didn’t like when the dealer listings came in. I can find dealer listings anywhere. This is a long over due change. Don’t kick them out, just put them by themselves.

Makes sense, but if it were better moderated (policed) maybe this separation wouldn’t have even been needed in the first place. I still take issue with every for sale ad that removes the price and replaces it with sold (and sometimes even removes all its images and content). Many of us have griped about that but nothing seems to get done about it. The bottom line is if you enact rules on a forum then you need to enforce them, had they been doing so well, then we wouldn’t have so many complaints about it. Personally, I think more attention needs to be placed on the parts for sale section over the cars for sale section, especially since as you pointed out, this is a DIY forum. And while we’re discussing this, I also think that the seller of any car should be able to decide whether they want to allow posts to their thread or not. Just my two cents.

I haven't checked the new forum but it does seem about time. Given the "dealer" status, maybe they should have to pay a few schillings to promote too.. Heck, even CL charges for car ads now.
