Worked on this over the weekend, A/C had a leak now blowing cold. Also started looking in to the original color, paint tag was removed, probably for the repaint, from the the remnants of color here and there the closest factory color of the day would be Apple Green Color 260, looks like i need to order a COA or whatever they call it now.

The seats and valance are as the car came to me so someone along the the line changed those out.

Thanks all for the input on value, If I could get mid $60K i would consider letting it go. Then, after working on it and getting a number of little things fixed and taking it out for a drive I am now thinking maybe keeping it and restoring it back to original color. Decisions decisions.

Forget the repaint. You might devalue it bringing it back to original color.

That's amazing indeed. isn't it "illegal" to mix and match ?

I believe you are very, very wrong. This car would be worth WAY more in its original, rare, paint-to-sample color.

Now I would agree with you if you had said "You might not get your money back" by repainting it, as a color change (color do-over?) is an expensive prospect.

Repaint will devalue in the eyes of those prospective buyers who wouldn't be caught dead driving it ...

Given that decreases the buyer pool, it might.

If the original color was one of those greens, a proper repaint in the original color pretty much has to add value.

"Proper repaint" .... yup ...

I haven't even gotten to that yet ... the other gotcha and real risk with a repaint which might devalue the OP's car if done "improperly" whatever that means, depending on who you ask.

Leave it as is. Let the next owner repaint it or not.

It would cost a fortune to restore the car to original. And 100% original would be the only way to bring the collector money to the table. I doubt color alone would do it.

But it reminds me of the metallic yellow colored 1 of 1 1979 930 that sold for over $200k.
Color was nothing I would want but it sure dazzled the collector crowd. That rare color on a restored 930 might just do the same.

Did you fix the AC leak of just recharge it?
Have you ever been in a men’s gymnasium?

Now imagine it with red interior from factory.

Stunning.

E Ray 09-20-2019 04:58 PM

Funny you you bring that up. The story I got from the PO, "lobster" interior

Matt Monson 09-20-2019 05:12 PM

Lobster and green would be so awesome.

First step like you said is to invest the money in the COA. If the car is an uncommon green or paint to sample that is a definite value added. If the engine and trans are matching numbers, that’s more money to you. A lobster red interior spec would pique even more interest.

Even if you choose not to do the repaint or interior change yourself I could see someone picking it up in the 60-70’s for the specification alone, especially if it is uncommon.

The minus is that miles are unknown which would limit value as a low-mileage trophy.

No need for all that, just register it at the Porsche registry. Enter the vin and it will tell you what your car originally came with....but I wouldn’t hold my breathe that it’s 100 percent accurate ....then again the COA’s aren’t either

What color is Chartreuse? Can't find it online.

Porsche Classic currently sells the snorkel headlight washers...$99.00 each.
