Shipping recommendations
I know there is another thread recently on the same subject but my situation is a bit different.
I may be getting re-united with a 914 I raced 20 years ago in SCCA/PCA. The car is for sale in CA and I'm in NJ....3000 miles ,Ugh! Since it is in open top configuration it requires an enclosed hauler....but it also comes with a spare motor and extra set of wheels. Any thoughts on who might be the best to contact. I'm thinking I may need to ship the crated motor separately via common carrier. thanks Tom B. |

Hi Tom - try a service like UShip - they'll connect you with private individuals and you can arrange with them on your own for any extra services / room for the shipment. Other members will likely chime in with their expertise. Best of luck.

I was a dealer and have shipped hundreds of cars. Using a big name enclosed shipper like intercity lines, reliable, plycar, or someone that has been around a long time you will not have much trouble.
Where people get into trouble is listing the load on a site where random truckers bid for the load. Every broker service does this. Last thing you want is a rickety old random trailer showing up with Igor the Eastern European driver hauling your car. Another interesting thing I have seen is someone posts a load, sells the load to some shady transport for the cheapest price... this is public info and Another separate shady Eastern European truck comes and steals the car because the sender doesn’t realize this in not the right guy. Use big brand name here and you won’t have trouble.

Montway shipping is the best, I used it to transport my 1988 Porsche 911 Turbo from PA to CA.
The best 24/7 service, cheap and very very quick. Great experience with them. ![]() I wouldn't recommend any other ones. I used the closed trailer one for 200 bucks more. It's probably worth it. Good luck. https://www.montway.com |

i used uship and got a bunch of quotes. then called the company with the best quote directly and got an even better price. it was one of the larger outfits with an 18 wheeler loaded with cars in an inclosed trailer

I've used Uship for cars that I didn't care if they were damaged. Some of them were minor damaged but that was ok. They were getting redone anyway. If the 914 is important to you, hire a real shipper. The real shippers go over the car, update the status and go over the car again when it arrives. Uship gets it there eventually. It all depends what your expectations are.
