3.6 993 engine value
Hi Marketplace Gurus and others,
I have a 1996 3.6 993 Engine ROW version that I am looking to sell. It is everything but brains and harness. It has never been split so verifying the claimed 15k miles is difficult, but my cousin is an engine builder at a very well respected Porsche shop in NY and did an exam, scope, cameras etc and said it looks to be possible...again, not way to verify with out opening. What do you all think I will be able to sell it for as 2020 College tuition is due soon. Thanks, Jonathan http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1576800582.PNG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1576800582.PNG |

3500 in this market

$12k low end to $16k upper end if you can verify its low mileage claim and that everything is in excellent condition and doesn't need to be rebuilt.
|
Is your cousin selling the motor? If not how did he get to see it and scope it?
Why wouldn't he know what its worth? |
Scope blah blah. You can still do a leak down, though this will not verify the bottom end is not a boat anchor. Tough to represent without having seen it running.
|
... if you cousin builds these motors and scoped it, why didnt he do a leak down and a compression test? How could he work on and build these things and not know what they're worth.

As you know, because you’re so full of advice and criticism, a leak down can be done when the engine is out of a car but a compression can not be done engine out. But you knew that. Why your so negative is what’s fishy as you tried to contact me under a different name to buy it. That’s very disturbing. Regardless. I have several interested buyers who I’ve emailed pics of for review. Not sure when pelican won’t load pics. And why wouldn’t my cousin know price? Let’s think. He’s a mechanic not a engine sales guy. Duh. Thanks all for your help. |

Wow did i touch a nerve. Yes we all know you can do those tests without the engine being in a car, i never said you couldn't. No I'm not in the market for a 3.6 motor, and no i didnt contact you. I only have one name here and I've been around here a long long time. Good luck with the sale. Always a good market for these 3.6. seems to me if you scoped the motor you might have done the other tests too. Several people said the same thing. Have a great day! |

Thanks everyone. A Marketplace member is the proud owner!

Those are some seriously good cylinder leakage numbers for a stone cold engine (would even be better if the cylinders and heads were near operating temps).
|
The quite good numbers are normal for a cold leak down on these when in good shape.
