Do the bottles leaning on the front spoiler have anything to do with the blown engine?
Chemically induced exuberance?

Leaving aside the value question go back and look where the jack handle was allowed to hit the bodywork. If it does that there what else is lurking.

I bought an 88'930 here in white with a rod knock just about 2007, just before the great recession for 1.6 mil JPY or about 15K. It had modified susp, exhaust, and even sport seats. 65k on the clock or 109..000 km. Bought another accident motor for 3 5 k, swapped it in. Then the crash came. I had it all going, didn't need to sell, but I did and for 20k. After that I sold the original motor complete for 3.5 k. In the end I made 4k for all my effort. If I would have known better, or known how to read the markets up and down, I would have kept the car and extra motor. Selling in this coming recession is bad timing. Buying at the right price is good timing. Wise to wait and feel the timing of the market ups and downs. I snagged the sport seats, sold the car with 964 front seats. Just a consolation.

If i'd had a place to park it, instead of front of the house on the street I wouldn't have sold it (car or the motor). Neighbors b-tchin about cars on the street! Normal person here pays for parking like 100-150 dollars a month. I'm lucky that my street has a No no parking law since we are on a boardwalk sort of estuary. Still, neighbors tend to scowl. I have a single car garage in the house, but that is/has always been reserved for the BTR, The minivan parks out on the street. Park an extra 930 out there and people round these parts get a little jealous and pissed, especially when no other cars are parked on the street. Gaijin stick out in such a situation, especially if its over a long period of time. Motor went to an anonymous domestic auction buyer.

930

I spoke to the owner as I have a good euro 3.3 out of an 88 that I removed running 6 months ago .Im on board with everyone that 50k is high but at 40k with a decent used engine purchased and installed then your in the car cheap (for a 930 ) and the paint looked good to me . If someone buys my engine at 15k my shop would do the install including a clutch job for $1000 in NJ. When its done you have all the extra engine parts to sell off as well .

drag sorry, I think you will have a lot more company in your situation soon.
I am hearing a lot more of this on a daily basis, next month will be when I find out my situation more clearly. If people pay rent and or there is an eviction freeze in Tucson.
A friend laid 22 people off yesterday from one of his restaurants, was not fun telling them to look for another job when all restaurants are laying off.
Tough times.

Not trying to be snarky, but anyone who still has another 20 or 30 years until they retire just needs to ignore the stock market and their accounts.

Matt, I do not think your are being one bit snarky with that comment.
Although, I do not know anybody who is thinking 20 years away right now, most everybody I know is like 2.7RS and worried about getting through the next 6 months or even the next three.

I guess that being a self-employed mechanic comes in handy at times such as now - no one to lay me off (not like THAT! ), and even though there will be somewhat of a slowdown in spending, people still want their forklifts, tractors and aircraft to run. This is definitely not a path to personal wealth, but at least the threat of financial ruin is reduced. Not trying to suck my own d**k here, but just making conversation.

It also helps that I only have my own mouth to feed, of course.

930 project

^^^ Good for you. Don’t feel guilty for making a middle class life work.
Right now my guys are working because they are an essential industry. Sucks for the rest. But they finally have something to be proud of.

P.S. I’m ordering from my regular eating spots to-go and tipping 40% or more. These people are a part of my life.
We will get past this BS.

930

someone mentioned 15-20k for this 930 ? A handful of parts on this car easily equal 15/20k . The car is 35-40k the way it sits and thats fair money ...

I was doing the same until we had to self quarantine with sick children. I also bought a couple hundred bucks in massage gift cards because they are not on the essential list. The guy who has tended my old broken body for ten years might not get through this unscathed.

Another option. Instead, for only around $5 -$7K by using mine and others used but still good parts, someone could have a 3.5 liter with Carrillo billet rods ( have new bearings ) , JE pistons ( need new rings ), liners ( need renitrated as most would do ) twin plugged ported 930 heads that need 2 valve springs ( must have happened years ago before I got it ) from a previous unknown over rev, ( I drove it pretty easy like a grandpa would), otherwise just a valve job for safety sake. Just saw a used standard crank in the parts for sale for not much. Then just a good oil pump and a good twin plug ignition and rebuild gaskets as Pauls engine still has good cams and rockers. Now who has the time-skill and tools to do this ? ( probably many that have chimed in so far do ). Of course the entire oil cooling system would have to be sonic cleaned but when done this car would have way more grunt and have more life expectancy than it did. With a good induction system it was around 500@ the wheels @ 1 bar. Engine was 3% to 4% all cylinders prior to the start up failure. The failure was it blew out a spark plug upon start up so that plug thread would need to be time certed. Some think it was a Motec failure that was the cause. It was Norwood build about 20 years 6K miles ago for AMAC a previous Pelican member who's posts on this motor are still available here. For someone who has rebuilt a 930 motor before this rebuild should be Da ja Vue. Bad time for a project but if someone could get this on the road for well under $50K ( if Paul would take less as many suggest he should consider at this bad time ) ) plus the time to do it, maybe the best deal to be around for quite some time for someone that wants turbo poowaaaa that even Raw might respect.

How did it blow up ? Can't believe no other "car guy" here's interested in the gory details !

For example, when caveman carbs commit suicide, any true "car guy" wanna see the guts of it.

I just started it up after filling up with 112 octane. Just had driven about 5 miles from cold start up never over 3K RPM. Sounded like a bomb went off. Some think a Motec failure of a misfire with overrich condition as it was still only around 55 degrees. Engine has 8.0 compression 3.5 liter JE pistons. No piston, cylinder or ring damage upon teardown. Just one plug blown out and 2 others about to let loose.

Good idea to keep "outta trouble". Blown and repainted, not original, well OK. I have a few like that and sell most of the other stocker 930 as soon as I can to those who like em like that.
