NY State Title and Lien Question
For those of you that have bought or sold a car in NY I have a title question.
I have to sell my dad's car for him and it lists a lien on the NY title. I have a lien release from the finance company and the NY State website lists the lien as settled. Do folks in NY really sell cars this way, with the two documents? Getting a new title takes 90 days, so PITA and i'd rather not title it here in NJ even though I suspect some NJ buyers will not understand the NY process.

Yes that is the way it is done. The new owner will need the title and lien release letter from the bank. When the car is registered with the DMV by the new owner they will give the release to the DMV and the new title will be free of liens Unless of course they take a loan to buy it.
