Porsche only Hagerty Price Guide

Whether or not you agree with their numbers, it’s nice to have it all in one document.

914’s looked better, been tracking those numbers

But one car over those values to me is any 964 C2 Manual of course

Noticed the 993 manual coupe valued higher than the 964. And that’s as it should be. I’ve owned both. The 964 is not in the same class, in terms of styling and performance. And for all you out there that will scream how the 964 has more of a raw feel to it, or just love the upright headlights of the 964, I fully beg to differ. It’s every bit as insulated a driver as the 993 when compared to all the old torsion bar suspension 911s, and those “great” upright headlights are negated by those chunky ass rear and front end bumpers.

best thing about a 964?
used parts all over the place, thanks to Singer mutilating every 964 that they can get their hands on.

Hmm.. I really liked the 993 at one time but haven't been able to shake the feeling over the past few years that it's not aging very well. The front looks short and stubby compared to the traditional cars. There are tons of nice examples for sale at any given moment which further degrades their cachet. The 964, on the other hand, has never looked so good and people are practically fighting over nice examples.

Ain't nothing negated that I can tell.

I’m a huge fan of the 993 but to suggest that one is better than the other and or similar is a stretch. Having driven them back to back in the canyons I came away with very different impression, the 993 feeling far more modern and a touch disconnected in comparison to the 964. I do agree that both are insulated compared to the older G body cars but that’s to be expected. Having said that, the 964 is much closer to the G and the 993 is closer to the 996 in terms of feel and feedback. As far as looks, that’s a matter of opinion and we all have one. Personally I find both to be very attractive and ideally want one of each.

The 993 is not “aging well”??? OMG! It’s a stylistic icon! It stands alone in aircooled 911 history. And don’t tell me that it’s styling is shared by the 997. Other than the headlights, they look nothing alike. The 964 looks like every other 911 in history, but with fugly bumbers.

Some colors look horrible on the 993, making the nose look too short and full of panel gaps. I think those who say its not aging well should add an asterisk followed by "for a 911." It's an aggressive look, too aggressive for some.

JMO, but the 993 is light years ahead of the 964 in the looks department. I totally agree with Kansas that it's the model that best integrated the impact bumpers that started in '74.

Having said that, the long hood cars look the best of all the air cooled 911s. So there.

Way too skinny, disproportionate snout length, and not nearly enough tail!

I own a 993 and a 3.2. They both look nice but to the general public the 993 is just another late model 911. We know they’re different but the man on the street thinks it’s a 996 or 997 or... It’s one of them new Porsches.

When I’m driving the 993 I *might* get a a nod of approval, but rarely. When I’m in the earlier 3.2 Carrera I get far more thumbs up. Three just the other day while I was in the ‘84, it was surprising actually.

When I owned my 964, I never got any attention. I actually had one lady ask me if it was a Karmann Ghia. Others just thought it was some classic car from Britain. But since I’ve had my 993, I get far more looks and compliments. It just looks far more aggressive, faster and sportier than my old 964. The 964 reminds me of nerdy late 80s and early 90s fashion cues. Even the man responsible for the 964 styling hated it. He said it looked heavy and slow.

^^ My 993 will get the occasional nod but still rare.

The '84 used to get the occasional nod but I have noticed in the last couple of years it is getting more and more attention and thumbs-up. That's not why I bought it and I'd rather blend into traffic but I think people react to the classic styling.

The 993 is a good looking car but really just has the soft, rounded shape that so many other cars have these days. It looks fairly modern. It's a shame that fuel economy demands and aerodynamics have dulled car design.

Yeah, but now every new car looks like a praying mantis. I hate it!

i have own two 993 and a host of earlier model porsches.
what i miss the most about the older ones is the absence of power steering...
and with the exception of the RSA that was lost with the 964 too.

It’s rare that I pull into a gas station or stop my 964 Targa somewhere that it doesn’t get attention. Even the much younger generations love it. The single biggest issue with the 964 is the off road ride height which makes it look cumbersome and top heavy. Put on the M030 or H&R Springs and get the rake right and the car immediately looks better. Add a set of Cup 1’s or other cool wheels and they look amazing.

Nothing uglier than a 964 targa. I owned the sought after coupe. Never got a second glance in that car. Got far more broken necks in my 997 and 993. Just sayin.
