Don’t know which way to go

I’m considering purchasing one of the following;
-1973 Carrera
-1974 Carrera
Or a backdated 911 with an engine swap built as a tribute as a Carrera RS.

Since I’ve been looking I have noticed that some of these backdate cars cost more than the original 73 or 74 Carrera’s. If I go the backdated direction I prefer a car that is done tastefully.

When spending this kind of money on one of these cars I can’t help but look at the investment value, I’m wondering if it will remain the same or is there a bubble about to burst on the air cooled cars?

Thanks advance for the replies.

Not sure any backdated car is anywhere near the cost of a real 2.7 Carrera. If you’ve got the do re mi, and you’re looking at an investment car, go with the real deal for anything close to the price of a backdate.

Depends on if you plan to drive it or just park money in it.

The car you fantasize about driving. I like the 74 out of those choices. It's a one year only style.

Can't help but wonder about this post. With the limited information you've given, your choices and dollars are all over the map. For instance what flavor of '74 are you referencing? CIS 2.7, MFI 2.7 or 3.0? '73 Touring or Lightweight? Series I or II?

Backdate to a '73 or 74? Built to spec or real 2.7 MFI? What back date costs more than a real 73 RS other than a maxed out Singer?

Buy the 73 2.7L RS..... They have come down a few hundred thousand dollars..... a nice one is $500Kish..... they are beyond fun to drive and will hold value better than any other Porsche this side of a trendy "Singer".

Holy s***. I never click on garages. That's just too much stuff to deal with for me.

It’s in his signature. I’m guessing tapatalk doesn’t show that to you.

If money is not an obstacle Mac is spot on. They've really come down in price from the insane top.

The OP never mentioned a 2.7RS. He only mentioned a 2.7RS Tribute. Somehow that got lost in the sauce and the thread went off the rails.

What’s the difference between a 73 Carrera and an RS?

Me personally? I’d get a 76-77 C3 and hot rod it. Build the engine with EFI and 325-340hp. And have fun with it.

Our cars are driven. We believe in using cars for the purpose they were designed. We enjoy vintage racing (mostly HMSA and General Racing LTD events) my wife and I both have Shelby GT350's (her's is a 65 mine a 66). The "Vintage" Porsche I'm considering is something that will be used, it won't be a "garage queen". Rallys, mountain cruises, fun runs, etc.

I think I am leaning towards a 1973 RS Tribute that has been nicely modified (3.2L, suspension, and brake upgrades) also about 1/2 the price of a real Carrera RS.

I am not new to vintage cars (own and have owned several cool cars) but I am new to "Vintage" Porsche's.

I appreciate the helpful feedback.

Give me half the price of a 73RS and I'll find you three "tributes". You've some homework to do I'm afraid.

Here was my 73T: modified w/ a 3.2L, Carrera suspension and Turbo Brakes...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/414662-metamorphosis-complete-welcome-home.html

The car was a hoot. I sold it to a nice gentlemen who has me on speed dial for when he is done with it.

On a fun mountain rally.....
