Seems like thats the reason they are all expensive. Theyve been gone through with lots of time and money spent on them

It all started around 2014 with the whole 60 years of PCA, 50 years of the 911, 75 years of Porsche, Gen X making enough money to buy the cars of their childhood, etc. etc.

Funny I bought my first and only 911, an 83SC Cab, late last year. At the time I figured that, as usual, I was probably buying at the peak.
Talking to my wife this afternoon about how I could not find another one for the price I paid only 9 months ago. Now I’m wishing I’d bought a 964 too. They are out of my range now.

I was told from a high end Porsche shop to up my classic insurance from 35k to 45k. On my 85 Carrera . To me that is just amazing!!! But I went ahead and did it and Hagerty just said. oK. No questions!!!!!

Couple of years ago I was told my 72 t in restored condition would be worth almost 100k... And now it seems values are down from then... What gives?

Finite number built and a very easily recognized car of many young men's dreams. It seems "vintage" is the desired thing now, not only in our cars, but in many things. Price a Schwinn Paramount these days .Or a Honda 305 Scrambler. Put on a diaper first
Probably a lot of reasons for the vintage craze but it seems to be really strong.
Glad I bought in 2001.

You got to realize, none of these prices are remotely realistic, they’re all fishing prices.

Sellers are hoping to find a ‘miracle buyer’, so they list stuff at insane prices, thinking if they hold out long enough, some idiot will come along.

So they keep listing and listing and listing, and eventually get sick of listing and finally sell it to the first cash offer they get.

Literally the only thing that matters is SOLD price. You can ask anything you want, doesn’t mean you’ll get it.

About 22 years ago bought my first 911, an '87 cab in immaculate condition (for $30k) from the Porsche dealer in Tulsa, OK. I then drove it for 3 years, put 45,000 miles on it, and sold it no questions asked to a guy from LA for what I paid for it (I did pay for new clutch when I owned it). I'd also purchased a solid coupe with a whale tail for about $18,000 and have owned it ever since and but lot of miles on it (now over 200K) Recently got it insured with Phoenix Insurance at 45k, no pushback at all. Probably could have gone higher. About 5 years ago I rebuilt the engine myself, well with Wayne's help and several independent Porsche shops but there's not a part on that car I don't know and could replace with no worries. My new GLC 300...I barely know how to put gas in it.
I think part of the appeal is these cars are generally reliable and can be worked on, if you are so inclined to do so. And they aged very well from a visual perspective.
My big regret was not buying my buddy's mint 88 930 cab for $25k back in the day since he'd moved on to 993's and eventually water cooled Porsches. His brother eventually ended up with it.

Umm, you can insure your car for $6,000,000 if you want. Your premiums will reflect that. The higher your agreed value, the more the insurance company profit. That's Insurance 101. Doesn't have anything to do with what someone will pay for it
