It’s a roll of the dice. Like any other used car purchase.
I bought one on bat sight unseen end of 2018. I did ok. But wouldn’t do it again. In my case the seller under represented the car and work performed and more importantly who performed it. Car was better than represented. Still have it and typical of me have spent near the Purchase price modding it :-) |

As I said earlier I purchased one car on BAT and bid/looked at a second. In general I believe most of the cars on BAT are represented fairly. Ask questions, inspect it yourself or a friend if possible, read thru the comments 99% of them are useless but often you have one or two knowledgeable people chime in.

I cannot conceive of NOT personally inspecting my long-desired first 911 prior to purchase. Maybe my 3rd or 4th...

I sort of bought a car on BAT. I had decided I wanted a 356 C Coupe and started looking at BAT pretty regularly. I ended up finding a car that was a no sale on BAT back in January on Northern CA. I tracked the owner down through the registry and we put a deal together over several months of COVID shutdown. We drove down and picked it up after an inspection by one of the foremost 356 shops down there. I was hoping to see it but with the travel restrictions I ended up canceling flights twice. The shop knows way more than I do anyway but I was a bit nervous. It was better than advertised and I'm thrilled with it. Maybe go through some no sale cars and see if you can track the owners down.
I wouldn't buy one sight unseen. I did that once with an 82SC and ended up being ok on the car but had I seen it in person first, I would have walked away. The guy was another Pelican and I got a false sense of security with that and a PPI that ended up being worthless.
