New LWB 911 Body!

This week at Frankfurt Automechanika, JP/Dansk is introducing the LWB 911 reproduction shell. Now all of you race car builders and rotted project owners can start with a new body. Check out the pics:

This was inevitable. Any notion of pricing?

Grady Clay is dancing in his grave. It's a shame he didn't live to see this.

Is that stamped with a VIN somewhere?

As much as it's exciting and amazing, it's also kinda scary.

Anything under $50K and they'll sell very quickly. Look how many rusted out cars are out there that are crying out for something like this? If I had a rusted out 911 of any vintage this would be perfect!

Awesome.
Interesting mix of stampings. Kind of a brand-new backdate - impact bumper guts in a longhood shell.

Numbers...

Everyone seems so tied in knots over "matching" numbers, and sensitive about VIN switching, how could you ever justify the cost? Judging by the cost of new Mustang and Camaro body shells, then adding a Porsche-sized premium, I'd estimate at least at least $30k for a 911 shell. Why not just backdate an impact bumper car?

Nowhere in the US can you legally move a VIN tag to a repop body shell, but I'm sure it's been done.

Actually in some states you can get a new vin for the replica of your choice (cobra etc) indicating the year of car you are replicating.

An,d I use to know of one British car shop that sold rebooked cars. THey didn't;t swap the vin, just keep the one section of the body that held the vin form your donor, and built the shell around that.

COincidentally that was the one part of that car least susceptible to corrosion and most likely to have survived.

At least in Michigan, the new title would say a '2016 replica'. Yes, I know of several who bought old titles (historical documents) then stamped those VIN's into frames (with fiberglass bodies on top); some got caught and the cars were confiscated. Boyd Coddington was charged with titling new steel bodied cars with original Ford titles and VIN's, big scandal!

Cutting out and transferring a VIN marked section is really sketchy in the eyes of the law, doubt if you could do it unless you used a MAJOR percentage of the original.

I'm surprised Porsche hasn't put a halt to this yet. Or maybe a cease letter is coming. Just ask Singer, they don't take lightly copying their cars.

Except Singer uses 964s which are very different than this. Part of the reason is so they can use more modern coil over suspension so I doubt they would have any interest in a torsion bar chassis.

In North Carolina:

(1) Replica vehicles shall be titled as the year, make, and model of the vehicle intended to be replicated. A label of "Replica" shall be applied to the title and registration card. All replica vehicle titles shall be labeled "Specially Constructed Vehicle."

I haven't had time to search the whole list of states

Agreed. This would be a step backwards for Singer.
