BAT is an efficient marketplace.
There is 0% chance you only get $400 for your car.

Here is why you will get a higher price with no reserve

Thank you for the link, sugarwood.

It's about what I expected. No Reserve is not for me.

.......................
The color- Sepia.

Initially, I wasn't wild about it. I totally understand that it isn't appealing to every 911 fanatic.

After being with this car over 30 years, I don't even consider the color anymore. It is all about condition & quality- that's where it's at for the true early 911 enthusiast.
If you don't like it, simply walk away & find your dream. I understand. But, don't poo-poo it, okay?
Cheers,
Walt

Walt,
Don’t take it personally. There’s a long history of baby poop jokes around here.

Not quite apples to apples but here's a sepia '73 E sold a few days ago on BaT:

From reviewing past BAT auctions, Sepia or other brown 911s don't fair extremely well. I think it is poor judgment by buyers but color is important to most people. I personally like sepia but I would prefer a jellybean color longhood myself.

Walt, Sepia car lovers are out there! I’m one for sure and almost picked one up a few years back ... Father in law has a 356 SC that was originally Sepia brown but he re-painted it Irish Green! Almost didn’t marry his daughter on account of that sin. Yours looks fantastic and well loved!

Some have suggested that there are potentially fewer that covet Sepia (although does feel like its time is coming). That may mean you don’t get multiple people turning up at auction bidding against each other. Now you only need one, but that kind of tension in an auction is worth an extra % or two. I’d make sure you’re happy to part with it at the reserve (lest market is soft on a given day).

Good luck whichever way you go!

Porsche spiders!
&
Some underside pics as the car has been parked just like this for 20 years.

The spider webs are about to get vacuumed up.

Again, thank you folks for all your helpful comments.
You are helping me to get motivated to resurrect this vintage transplant from Stuttgart.

You deserve a swift kick to the testicles, Phatt!

It's still difficult to believe that someone created that color, sprayed it on a 911 (projectile diarrhea?! ), stepped back and said, "Yep, that'll work".

Hi thamlin, am not familiar with the term 'kidney bowl'
Where is that?

There is only some surface rust on the links.
No perforations anywhere- it's dry and factory original. Pan looks perfect.
There are some scraps and dings on the underside, nothing serious.
It is very nice, just needs a power wash, some exo-rust and some paint to look good.

On a 47 year old car like this, condition is the most important thing.
Color can be changed, but restore condition is very difficult & expensive.

Got it pulled out.
Gonna polish/wax the bumpers/valance and work on getting the engine running.

Don, I responded to your message, will try to borrow a neighbors phone to call after I get the engine running. Walt

Walt,

I think a few of us are already caught up in the 'romance' of this lovely car. I think the 'barn find' / 'just pulled from long term storage' could potentially be a good angle for selling on BAT? Everyone loves a story.
Alternatively, perhaps spend some time and money getting it fully up to scratch as a turn-key car with few needs before listing - I'm not sure you'll realize it's full potential listing it as being somewhere in the middle.

Best of luck!

Here is a link with the ‘kidney bowl’ pictures and explanation showing rust areas. Classic Car Workshop

Looks like you are on the right track with preparing the car. One thing, don’t do any underside painting or touch ups. Let the next owner do that. The BaT crowd will accuse you of covering up rust or repairs if they see new paint. The value in your car is its originality.

How many original paint longhoods with no rust remaining now? My guess is 5% or less.

Agree. Paint nothing. Don’t pressure wash either. Hand or hose for anything you do.

Thank you, sugarwood.
That was the best laugh I've had in a long time.
Laughing as I ran down to the garage with trouble light to check it out.

I chopped off its head, so the next owner won't have to worry.

Just washed & dried it in prep for a top wax job.

The shape of the early 911's is so beautiful, that any color would work on it.
