What's the market for a Rubystone M491?

A friend is putting this up on PCarmarket soon.

84 with 64K miles, rubystone M491 with Ruf bumpers. Really sweet-running car.

Hoping there are two people who really want it! Any bets on what the top bid will be?

I would be careful with PCar it seems like they are mostly selling their own inventory from CCS the cars they could not move at the showroom. Most cars end up in the "deal tank". There are a few bad experiences on the internet. Why not BAT seems like most Porsches bring a premium on there. Also there is a new site called cars and bids which looks promising.
All that being said that car should do well. If it was all original I think in the 70s but with the aftermarket parts maybe 60s. Nice looking car

I've seen it a couple times around the internet and I'm in the market for an air-cooled car. Is there a reason it's not selling?

I like the color. Beats rocking up in a silver one any day.

Does it retain factory original paint, steering wheel, front bumper assembly?
I get Pcar calling on every car I advertise. Personally I’d go for BAT!

I agree and I like the car.

A bud of mine recently bought a modified and color changed 86 Carrera built into a M491 wide-body w/ a 3.8L motor; after sorting minor details, the car is a stud hot rod... This Rubystone factory M491 has that type of potential if there is nothing unsavory hid under the re-paint.

My concerns with this car would be quickly relieved by a thorough PPI. Given its history I would not buy w/o one....

Yep saw this initially posted on here a couple years ago, then shortly after that on BAT. Had some paint issues (orange peel) in a spot or 2. But seems to have been corrected in the recent EBAY listing, along with the frunk painted to match and some other improvements.

Pro: M491, euro motor (higher compression) and trans (addition of cooler), sport seats, high impact color
Cons: motor and color is not original

Think Matt's assessment of 69k is accurate.

Fun to look at, but wouldn't own it. Those seeking a rare color probably also want an original car.

Not if it’s F/S at a discount to original.

No one - wait, let me amend the absolute there - fewer, will pay a premium for an unusual color when it’s not original. If it was 20% cheaper than a comparable GR car there’d be a line.

Well...made it to deal tank and is sitting at $69k.

Anyone know anything more about this car? Going to try and put eyes on it this week if possible. Will be happy to relay info if I don't buy

Check the old bat listing. It's been for sale for a long time.

Yeah...read the BAT listing and checked the photos. Others here and on RL have commented that it seems "not right" without much detail. Figure it might be worth a thorough PPI to find out since I like the other elements (color, M491, CA emission compliant euro motor).

If you dig the car you should absolutely pursue it. Just keep it mind, especially if the color is a big deal to you, that you’re not buying a Rubystone M491.....you’re buying a guards red M491 that was painted Rubystone.

Personally I think mid-50’s is generous for a non-original, but the market is bananas right now.

A really cool color combo M491 didn’t hit reserve on BaT today ($55k); I’d try to track that car down.
