yet another what's it worth thread

likely to be putting my 75S (smog exempt) up for sale in the spring and was looking to get some opinions on what i might consider listing it at.* also looking for thoughts on what venue id be best served listing it at, BAT, pelican classifieds, etc.*

here's what the domino has to offer----

non sunroof, crank window, complete RS interior, Recaro cloth reclining seats, black headiner/dash solid 9.5/10, white respray 7/10, SC flares, little to no rust. OE front bumper and unfinished RSR fiberglass rear. 40mm IDA weber carbs, MSD ignition/coil, SSI's, RSR Dansk muffler, fan equipped carrera cooler, new Dansk oil tank, 2 6x16 fuchs to be included, 7x16 front fuchs, 9x16 replicas in the rear. new from my build 31/23mm torsion bars, weltmiester adjustable spring plates, all stiff nylon suspension bushings, wevo 911 strut brace with significant camber adjustment opportunities OE sways with a very aggressive alignment settings.

completely rebuilt during my build 3.oL motor <6k miles ago with split case, GT3 rod and main bearings, early big bore heads that were redone with titanium retainers and race springs, new 9.5/1 JE pistons, 140/120 webcam grind, refurbed rockers and all new adjustment hardware, pressure fed tensioners. all chainbox components are new, glenn yee rebuilt oil pump.

i have a bunch of receipts from a previous owner from <8 years ago with work totaling in excess $25K with a few things ive noted above in addition to a transmission refresh, new alternator, new billstein struts/inserts and new billstein rear dampers and a bunch of other stuff. those receipts were included in my purchase thread here from 4 years ago.

ive got a very detailed document im working on gathering what ive mentioned above, and more that i could provide via PM once it's completed. with what ive shared thus far what's a number?

No Guard LSD? Not a cent over $35k.

pmax 11-08-2020 12:28 AM

Oh look what M2 just posted in another thread.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604776723.jpg

Word on the street is that he might just be interested in a car like yours.

Pay top dollar for it as well but you gotta grovel and be nice.

GLWS !

Do your homework. Go to BAT click on the box that includes your model. You will find prior sales here. Click on the more button to keep looking at additional sales. These are true/real numbers. You're not relying on opinions, it is facts from previous sales, or no sales.

car is kind of a bastard so doing homework is going to be tough. there are a number of guys here that are very versed on a wide range of cars so here i am with my valuation request. thanks for your suggestion though none the less.

I think a sorted pre emissions hot rod should do better than $35k. I bet you could get mid $40’s.

Juan

Car looks great. This is a tough question.

I would replace the rear bumper with a stock or better still a euro bumper.

Possibly add a P O R S C H E Stripe to the side.

Sell on BaT.

I think it should be worth minimally $50,000.

I would also consider reaching out to Paul @ AutoKennel
https://autokennel.com/

He does very well selling this type of car and is an expert of the market.

Here is a recent sale; https://autokennel.com/featured_vehicle/1974-porsche-911-rs-sport-purpose-coupe/.

That was a joke. I think he should ask $45k if he’s going to list it here. And it could get closer to Mac’s $50k number if listed on BaT and he gets a couple guys with wood for it.

It's been so serious around here I can't tell when anyone is joking. ;)

BAT is a wild card. Like you said, couple of guys get wood and he could get $50k.
Put some Martini stripes on it and shoot for $80k. :D

I agree Stripes sell hot-rods on BaT...

The description sounds amazing. But then the pics leave a bit to be desired. The exterior is not looking so hot. I feel like a visual details would go a long long way to your final hammer drop.

If it were my car, I would outright copy Magnus Walker's SC, maybe not his color scheme (Or even maybe!)
I think even if you don't copy the color scheme, you absolutely need to throw on a baby IROC front and get the front and rear bumpers painted before you consider listing. The wheels don't match the outlaw vibe. I'd black them out. Your target audience likes blacked out wheels. You gotta kill that cheap ass mirror too. Vitaloni Toronado's are really cheap feeling and looking.

Put some better air cleaner covers on and maybe send some of the linkage out for plating.

You would pull 50+ with sexing up the exterior. I feel like 35 as it sits now.

Whenever you sort all this advice out Toby, and you finally take pics, get the right light angle. Take it from a fashion model (former), especially that first photo leaves something to be desired. The engine photos are good!

nathanbs 11-10-2020 05:42 AM

Classically restored fuchs, and chrome or painted headlamp rings will go a long way on this one

wgwollet 11-10-2020 06:29 AM

It’s too made for him, so the car is his thoughts, nice car, looks very nice, somethings can be reversed, if need be.....or new buyer loves it
It’s still very difficult to get top dollar or even near a good 75S, it’s a toy with no clear long term valve. I say $35,000, take it, problem is people have cars with a lot of add ons or upgrades and that’s ok, but it’s market appeal is reduced.

Without all the chrome I think this would be wasted effort. Some kid will like that it's all murdered out.

1979-930 11-10-2020 07:31 AM

If you take it to BAT I agree with 75 911s. The side script and black hood could work out.
You could get both wraps from CarBone for around $300.00. It would really bring out the look that sells.

Macroni 11-10-2020 07:47 AM

This is a well built car and would be a steal @ $35,000.

I do like 75 911S's ideas and assume this is exactly what a flipper such as BaT "super auctioneer" 911R would do to sell it for $100,000.

Yep. Mid 30's -mid 40's up and comers. Now on the flip side, I'm restoring a low miles original 77. I'm keeping it 100% original. I think both have their target audience.

Macroni 11-10-2020 09:58 AM

Swap the rear bumper to euro to match the euro front...

NYNick 11-10-2020 10:17 AM

$35k? Car would go fast for that money.
Mid $40's for sure, but probably not here.

Matt Monson 11-10-2020 11:38 AM

I think a BaT ad that includes in process build pictures and some name dropping of Dan and others who helped with it and it will break $40k with 3 days left. It just needs to be pitched right so people can see what it is. I personally consider built by Toby a certain kind of provenance. This is a nice nuts and bolts home built hot rod. Sell it as such.

juanbenae 11-10-2020 02:38 PM

thank you all that took the time with your opinions on price, what i should consider doing to make it more appealing to the market, and kind words on the car. a few things-

i am so done crawling around under a 911 these days in my mid 50's. i built a spec911 racer in my garage 10+ years ago, and then did this car starting in Nov. of 2017. id like to get a good price for it, but frankly I don't have the energy or the passion to be swapping bumpers, placing tails, replating carb linkage, coating H4 trim rings, mirrors or looking to copy anything magnus walker did. i believed somebody suggested blacking out the fuchs and a few noted some martini stripes/side scripts and those are things i would consider doing for a sale. if nothing else this thread has brought that to my attention.

someone mentioned the photos. i am aware the that in order to get it sold I will need to have something professionally done even if i have to tow it to the valley, Sac, or even pay a bit more to have a photog come up to me. there are a number of forested areas in addition to a couple of now defunct lumber mills with a ton of old rusty machinery and buildings. seem like the BAT folks eat that stuff up.... i will make sure this one is in the add...:D

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605050767.jpg

im hoping the value i saw in the car remains and may draw interest in the current market. smog exempt, which is a huge plus in CA and CO and possible other smog testing states. i realize many of you guys are in areas where smog testing is not a concern, but here in CA this bit IMO carries a great value. heck, where some of you are a 75 would have rusted into a pile by now..;) the light weight nature of the car with the sunroof delete and crank windows were things that really drew me to the car. im hoping that this example for a $40-$45K car and a buyer with the passion, energy i don't have and another $20K could make this a top notch, head turning hotrod.

again, thanks for the time and comments afforded here. i would take the 40-45 after a detailing, some striping bling the way it sits in a minute. i want out because im just not driving it up here with the narrow seasonal opportunities. and lastly thank you M2 for the very kind words below regarding me personally, and a description of "pitched to the right person" which is the guy im alluding to in the above paragraph.

The journey is never over! Congrats Toby on the sale! What are you planning now if anything on Porsche? Investing that money may be a good idea like in the stock market perhaps. You don't need another Porsche necessarily even though you may have the temptation. Whatever you do, you'll be loved the same here, 911 or not. Remember that, and please don't buy a Porsche Junior...

Matt Monson 02-19-2021 09:05 AM

Does he have room for one more? He can have mine.

I actually have a local coming to look at mine this weekend. He wants to go RS rep with it. He even already has front fenders and bumpers to replace mine. Wish me luck.

juanbenae 02-19-2021 12:05 PM

good luck. glad to have it gone with very little in the sales effort. never even placed an add, this thread was all it took.

the guy is pretty excited and has big plans for it as he told it going to repaint it in the original what i believe mexico blue. still some showing deep in the trunk area. hope he takes it to where i might have had i any energy or enthusiasm for it.

opted out of going to look at that GT4. not prepared to spend that much at entry or yearly on insurance and registration. swinging to and fro over a 09-12 cayman S (not an six speed to be found) and a WRX. not in any hurry though to move on anything.

dwelle 02-19-2021 12:36 PM

toby, drive the WRX if you haven't already. i've had two of them, came to hate both of them. i imagine coming from a 911 you'd be less than enthused with one of those tin cans.

i'll likely try out a cayman myself, i like those cars...

cassisrot 02-19-2021 05:03 PM

You’ll never forgive yourself if you sell that car. Also, change the rear bumper.

appreciate your thoughts, but it's pretty apparent you did not read any of the thread so your take is less helpful than you thought it might be.

i had an 03 bugeye wagon some years ago and know what you are saying about quality v. a porsche. im at this point open to both options and am in no hurry to do anything. a cayman is the 1st choice.

pmax 02-20-2021 11:39 AM

So, what's it worth ?
