Have impact bumper hot rods flipped traditional Porsche pricing?

I was bored this morning surfing the internet and saw this car on BAT. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1983-porsche-911sc-60/

Over $100k for a modified 80's SC.
There have been a couple impact bumper hot rods sell for high dollar this year. Pretty basic hot rods selling for a lot more than stock SCs.
It seems the selling prices are higher for the modified cars verses the all original cars. That is a complete change from from what I'm used to seeing.

LOL, and I thought I over paid for my SC. $120K for what is at best a $40K car. I hope they keep and enjoy it forever.

For $120K it should at least have a nicely worked 3.8L and a G50 (cry me a river 915 peeps).

I understand your frustration, but this isn't even close to a $40K car. It's a (much) better than new SC....much better. I like (with some reservations) what they did with the car.

Would I pay this kind of money for it? No. Especially since they spent $5K on a stereo. Seriously? After all that? Is it gold plated?

When cars are rebuilt to better-than-new they should command a premium. Certainly my SC would. I couldn't replace it with anything similar for tens of thousands of dollars over the regular market price. Would people pay me for that? Depends on how much they're educated on what was done or would have to be done to recreate it. Therein lies the rub.

But after all is said and done, does that make it (or any car) worth it?
Money talks. It only takes one buyer to create a comp.

I'm with Nick, the parts alone are worth much more than $40k, its not even close.

Not sure how he spent $220k on it, nor would I personally pay $120k for it, but its worth way way north of $40k.

I'm sorry I don't see it. A nearly stock 3L, gauges that look out of period for this car, non-sport seats, this car has nothing special about it, has no stand out style of it's own. It's a slightly warmed over version of a stock SC.

Some fool is going to loose a lot of money on this car.

I haven’t gone back to look. But this morning I think I saw three bidders going back and forth. That is only good for the seller.
Emotions and a very popular color may be driving this one up.

I like the gauges. But not in that car. They are perfect for my 911R-ish project.

You got any pics?

NO FREAK!

Of the 911R project car, I mean?

I’m contemplating ideas for my 69 E....

And yes, those green gauges are my favorite and the one reason I miss my 67 912 the most.

M2 has an array of green gauges if I remember correctly. He may be your man.

Yes, and at 100% profit, maybe 250 dollars worth of Tri tip on the kitchen table? That would make my mouth water.

I'll sell it here for the same. I have the time, no hurry yet. When I do I'll buy Costco tenderloins, smoked on good wood. I'll think about it then and you/our failed proposition while I munch down on some tasty well done meat! Got a lot of wild boar and deer meat the other day. Just waiting to get time to do it up perfect.

What a shop charges you for restoration work and the actual value are two entirely different things. The same quality work can cost double or triple if an unscrupulous shop owner knows you can pay for it. Apparently that just becomes a bragging right on these auction sites, reinforcing these practices.

You have a PM Matt...

I have not started yet. I'm still in the parts gathering phase. Honestly it will be another year or two before I start. My kids take up all my time right now.

I have the car, EB Motorsports complete 911R body kit, 15" Fuchs, Pop out quarter windows (The 911R-ish part) and a few other little things.
I'm searching for 930 brakes and then will get the suspension parts. But this is going to be my kids are off to college and I'm bored project. It's on a lift in the garage waiting for me.

The second reason I haven't started is if things continue to progress with my sons racing I may need to sell.
I don't want to have one of those disassembled project cars you have to give away. At this point the car is probably still worth what I paid.
