Oops I did it again.
Picked up yet another 964. This one is a going to be quite the project. It was nicely built Dan Jacob's track car and had an incident I would guess sometime around 2011. Last DE sticker on windshield.
I have been looking for a project car for about 4 years now and haven't found one in the $30k range that made any sense to use and was IMO too far gone. Anything in the $45k range was too nice to use as a project car and just needed lots of TLC but should stay stock. So Thanks to Matt for looking out for me and put me in touch with this gem. The car has issues I will deal with but the fact that it wore an NNJR (my local region) with both black and white run groups the same ones my wife and I use when sharing a car and it was originally Cobalt blue. So I bought it and honestly can't complain. Nice very strong motor. Some form of LSD with a G50. It is an 87 G50/01 but converted to fit the 964. I have others so not an issue but I think the gears might be shorter in this. I would love to find out more about the build as it seems nicely done. It may take me dissecting it to know what I have to work with though. So I know this is market discussion so the point being a 964 coupe C4 converted to C2 with interesting bits is worth at least $33k which I had to pay to get this one. It is going to take some work for me to build what I want but not a bad starting point. Funny thing is it seems I beat some people to the punch and others said they might have paid more. Interestingly I paid $10k in 2015 for a nice 90 C4 with less needs but was stock which gave its life for the wide body pictured. These cars just never cease to amaze me on where they have come from to where they are heading. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This will be a complete gut and rotisserie once it is put on the cellete and checked then seam welded. I plan to convert it to a wideboy RSR street clone. I have to laugh how tiny the narrow body cars look vs the widebody. The maritime blue does make the car look wider than usual though. That project should be done soon and then onto this one. Just finishing mocking up the exhaust and then the plumbing and soon it should be up and running. ![]()

The usual suspects at NNJR may know the history ? Very nice find looks like a great foundation for a build

I plan to ask around. Mid Ohio is one event I always miss. On my bucket list of tracks to drive. I made just about every other NNJR DE that year. Too bad I missed that one.

I know. I am considering it. My son plans on being there it is a few days before his birthday. Hard to believe he will be a PCA member for 5 years now. Seems like just yesterday Marlys signed him up on his 18th B-day at the Powertech tech party. Maybe I will drive his car or hopefully get mine done by then. I have an open invite to NJMP open track day I need to try to get the blue car done for. It will take a lot of shaking out before I will let my wife drive it. Hopefully I 'll make it this year.

I'll look for your car at the track. I'm one of the air cooled moving chicanes.

I think you did good on this car. Hard to beat the value even if it wasn't cobalt
Looks to me that the trans is new.

I agree with that sentiment. The 964 I got off Dan a couple years ago is really strong. It’s supposed to be stock, but when I had it custom tuned, it put out numbers on a Mustang dyno equal to engines with cams. I recently drove a 993 and couldn’t believe how slow it felt compared to my car.
If I could find a WB twin of this car, I would be in heaven. |
