911sc current prices

Hello, want to get an idea of the current pricing for decent 911sc's. Looks like around $35k to $40k is the typical asking price right now here in Southern California, and just want to know if this has been the general consistent pricing for a while. I'm just getting back into possible Porsche ownership after a decade of not owning one. I previously owned 1973 and 1974 914 2.0's, and the price for those has jumped 3 fold from what I sold mine for 10 years ago.

Thanks.

I very recently sold a nice '79 911SC coupe with 142k for $39,500. Not a "perfect" car, but a well maintained and very presentable driver. I felt that the price was right for both buyer and seller.

I don’t think you’re going to find a decent SC for less than $45k. Everything that I have seen under this price point looks to require too much sorting. Recent BAT auctions for well sorted SCs are bringing $55-65k. And these are not pristine examples by any means, just “well sorted”, nice “driver” level cars.

I agree with Kansas on this one . BAT is the venue to sell a 911SC/Carrera and there are plenty of driver quality examples with sellers claiming low mileage and wonderful condition that are doing 60k+ . Should you buy any of these cars that are said to be amazing with no record of engine or transmission rebuild please budget another 10k at least as most of those examples are on the tired side mechanically . Just my 2cents .

BaT is not the only place to buy these cars. Someone in Socal can find a local buy on a decent driver for $35-45k. Someone in Kansas likely can't, and needs to go to the wider national market and will pay accordingly.

Thank you everyone for the input, as it seems pretty accurate from what I've been seeing. Have the prices slowly climbed for the 911sc, or is it similar to the 914 in that it increased about 3X in the last decade?

Both of them took a pretty good bump about half a dozen years ago, or so. Since then the SC has been fairly stable with some increases. The 914, on the other hand, really spiked the last 12 months.

Correct. SC values are geographically aligned. Bluntly speaking, they are dime a dozen here in Kalifornia. Less pristine SCs here are perfect for backdates, retromods.....

And to follow up on this, Craigslist appears to be the most consistent starting point for finding local cars, which many of these for sale by owners are actually dealers. The 911SC's I've been interested in sell in a couple of days at most.

I think you can find a well cared for SC in the mid-thirties as a private sale. Expect to pay quite a bit more from a dealer or auction.

Prices have definitely climbed, I say a 10-15% bump over the same time last year, doubling from middle of the last decade was it that long ago ? Too much money floating around.

Please pm me ads for “well cared” for SCs in the mid 30s. And I will immediately pull the trigger. I haven’t come across a well sorted SC in the mud 30s anywhere, in at least 3 years.

Yes - I've seen this one and it's also on the local Craigslist. The data seems to show that the Coupes are selling for higher than the Targas. Has this always been the case?

It has been the case for at least for at least since I first started looking at the air cooled market about six years ago.

There's a sizeable number of people who look down on Targas and say they "flex" and they look ugly. Similar to how some people go "eeeewww impact bumpers!!!" or "eeewww fried eggs".

Actually, from what I’m hearing and reading over the past 6 months, targas seem to be on the uptick. They are no longer being frowned upon at all. The rear glass is starting to really appeal as a truly vintage styling look.

Excellence and Hagerty have valued them higher for years. Pelicans have always talked them down because chassis flex. They are fantastic cars.
