Presumably OK as someone hit ours in the same spot. Air bags didn't deploy but it was low speed.

On a lighter note, It's nice to have friends. These are some of the bales off that bare dirt field last fall.

Beautiful day up on the Rim Trail. Coming down the lava rock at Sidewall Suicide.

We had a good turnout with 10 rigs.

Bet that was fun.

Btw, your FB post doesn’t show. I think you shared from a private group.

Ya, they won't make post sharable. I thought linking it might work.

Rider is still in critical care as of Monday. Don’t know more details, but the police have been unable to interview him at all. Don’t know if he’s conscious or not.

I’m getting my wife trauma counseling. There’s this, and then we all got Covid for a week. In the middle of that we had to say goodbye to our last kitty. She had been with us 21 years. DW, is a complete mess.

Kids are fine. Penny, who was in the car, doesn’t even really know what happened. My wife got out of the street quickly, and my kid never saw the body laying there.

Glad the fam is OK Matt. Sorry about your pets. We had to put the last of our 4 rescues down late last year.

More Water Line Discussion

Hope Mrs. M2 is coming to grips with the accident. Glad Penny was not aware or got the visual.

So, there was repairs required on one of the above ground, elevated flumes on the main ditch that feeds all of the system, including my service ditch. Every time the ditch shuts down, or there is a failure at the creek it takes quite a while to restore water and pressure, 3-4 days for the lines to fill our system.. Have been struggling to get the line to full the last few times and heading up to the ditch found a strange condition with the vent riser that evacuates the air from the pipe as it fills. Usually when you remove the vent pipe riser water bubbles out, well recently there was a huge blast of air prior to the water daylighting. It was apparent there was some sort of vapor lock occurring.

Had the water company up there and they always say, "air in the system on your side" and again they did not see a problem. One note, they replaced a bad 3/4" valve, a miner's type valve that had failed with a 2" gate valve. Was noodling this all last night and in visiting the ditch today it dawned on me. see photo

The gate valve is on the ditch side of our system as shown in the photo. With the increased valve size the water volume was overwhelming the vent (vertical 3/4" pipe) tee where post vent it is bushed down to the 3/4" union. This was creating too much water pressure and not letting air out of the pipe to the vent. no vent, no fill...

So, while up there today I shut the gate valve down to a point where the flow would not fill the 2" venting tee before the bush down and reestablishing the vent operation. Took me about 3 struggling line fills to figure this out, and the water company guys could not, and did not either after multiple trips up there. This reduced flow is likely about what the old valve provided. Once the line refills the vent will no longer push air out, but suck air in so I will open the gate back up completely.

This gravity line is a giant mystery where it shouldn't be really. But after 6 years and taking over the repair and maintenance a couple years back I learn something new each & every time...

I may just be considered a plumber someday.... Or maybe even a hydrologist??

I just had to buy one of those, about 60 bucks. Here's what I would do; crack the bottom first and then crack the top to fill. In other words avoid a pressure hammer to fill the line. Second thing is dissolved O2 is going to percolate to the top. They used to make, used them, a valve to let O2 out at the top. About the size of a soda can.

Was thinking about you. My wife wanted water at her greenhouse, OK. Short version is I had to splice into a 1" pvc to run a bit for the frost free. The point is tying into buried PVC isn't easy. I used a slip fit. They used to make a snap fit T but no longer. You can make one by cutting a bit off a standard T. Use medium set glue. BTW slip fits only work on pressurized lines, not suction.

Matt, I am sorry. I was on the MC side long ago. 18 YO ran a stop and my only choice was where to hit not if. Choose the left rear and my knee still hurts. Best wishes.

Ya, merry belated xmas and happy new year to those still tuned in. Our Ronnie thread aside, this forum like many others here on the pelican site are drying up. What maybe a half dozed threads on the main menu? The AX/Racing forum is dead as well, a page that was once had a full page of threads. I truly wonder when the plug will get pulled here?? The OT and PARF pages are producing very little pelican business in my estimation. Those two spots are by far the busiest even eclipsing the 911 Tech page.

Lil follow up on this. The water company finally put some grease on my squeaking wheel by eliminating the entire bush down to 3/4" section. They ran a full 2" section with a union and presto! The line fills and is a full pressure now in less than 10 hours. We have turned the 2" gate valve down to about 1/3 open to not overwhelm the system when filling from empty. The water company guys whom I've gotten to know over the years actually congratulated me for figuring it out and stating they even learned a lil something from getting this corrected....

That 3/4 to 2 always looked wonky anyway. Angles weren't right but low pressure on top so OKish. I'm curious to where the gravity feed goes. Pastrure, row crops, fire storage, pond? Obviously a slope and there's work arounds for laterals if you have them.
